Does this look like a drum-drum master cyl.? Looks just like the one I recently bought for manual front disc rear drum and LOOKS in better condition.
New problem... Now that's not new, lol . Any way, I now have a 73 comet that HAD a front drums rear drums master. I have installed a master for a 75 comet with front disc and rear drums, back side of master is for the front brakes, right? Well, now the rear part of the master is same threads but the line bolt bottoms out on the head so I don't think it's seating. Any ideas?
The larger reservoir is for the front brakes ... Ford used weird sizes on their brake lines so you may or may not be able to find an adapter. Did you install disc brakes? If so just bend new lines between the M/C and the prop valve. That is what I did and had no problems finding all the adapters I needed. Also .. if you installed disc brakes the factory drum hard lines will be too short to reach the calipers and have enough slack to turn the wheels. You can bend new lines that are long enough to reach ... this way they are standard size and you can get adapters for them as well. You can bend the entire driver side line ... it's pretty easy to copy. The passenger side is even easier because you can use the factory coupler near the shock tower to attach a longer line.
At the wheels is done (I hope). What I don't understand is the depth of the rear fitting port on the master itself, one is deeper than the other by what seems to be 3-5 threads, if that makes sense.
That Master Cylinder is the same as what came on my '74 Grabber which was a 4 wheel drum car. I believe it will work fine for either discs or drums.
I swaped out the drums on the front of my '73 last weekend, I kept the master cylinder that was in the car, and the porp. valve, and they work great! I took it for some high speed stops, no problem, and it looks the same as the one in my '74, that was a factory disc car. If anyone cares, the spindels I used came from a 75, they had D5DZ or something on them, I ordered 2 new calipers, and 2 new rotors for a '74 along with the front disc hoses, it all worked fine, took me a couple of hours, the lower ball joints were the worst to get apart, but they work great. I left the hose brackets in the same location, and the new hoses are long enough for full wheel travel left and right, I'll have to post the pics.
Cause yours works and I have been messing with this set up for sometime now. I need this fixed so that I can drive my car soon as I get it running which is verry soon. I have read a LOT of threads and articles and have even SEEN where guys swap the identicle parts I have, but mine wants to be different.
Is it where the lines go into the side of the master cylinder, thats giving you the trouble? I once bought one for another car, and it came with adaptors, I'll try and fiind some pic's if that'll help??
Yea, the rear port is deeper or something cause the head tightens all the way to the master so I don't think it's seating at the flare.
Just got back from NAPA, 22 miles away, and the manager there is alright in my books. I bought this master from them and have been sorry I did ever since. I took it in there today and showed him what I found...Do you want to know?
Well i'll show and tell you anyway . I decided to take the master back off and I found a badly corroded seat in the master! I couldn't really see it too good when it was mounted and part of the reason was cause it wasn't hardly there TO see. I've got another from NAPA and IT did come with an adaptor on the rear, so now I just need someone to help pump them up
