Hi all! I am going to look at a 77 maverick this weekend so can anyone tell me where to look for rust or where they are known for problems cracks twisting etc... I know there are the typical areas but being that the maverick scene is new to me I will take what ever info I can take. P.s I live in Ontario Canada and the car I was told is from Florida and then was stored here for 2 years inline 6 and colour 2 or 3 tone brown..........YUM!:yikes: price $2000.00 obo is this good for a clean 6 cylinder?? anyways thanks for any info.

check the cowl vents by pouring water on the grill just outside the front window and watching for water in the drivers foot area and passenger foot area. look for rust under the car anywhere as well as the hood and trunk and behind the rear tires and the bottoms of the front fenders just in front of the doors. also check the tires themselves for unusual wear. then just make sure everything runs good and works right.for that kind of money on a 4 door big bumper, be picky because it should be in pretty good condition

thanks for the info!!! I guess they are kind off similar to the 64/5- 68 mustang then for problem areas. Sorry by the way it is a 2 door not 4 door. Hopefully it will be a good car for the money I will keep you posted!

Front torque boxes and the frame around the steering box are a couple of more critical areas where I have found major rust in. They do have the same rust prone areas as the Mustang.

With big bumper cars, check the rear inner bumper, they rot like crazy (even in the Florida cars I've looked at) , and under the battery (if it hasn't been mentioned yet)

hey what if water leaks into the passenger side of the car when a large amount of water is poured into the passenger cowl vent, Just a question. Cause i noticed some liquid in the passenger side floor mat and i though that it was my heater core going out.

hello i bought a 1970 maverick grabber green 250ci. It is a California car and i have looked in the trunk have found nothing. I have found the passenger side floor pan with a couple of small rust hole nothing that can't be fixed. I believe the car is getting water in through the cowl vent but have not found any other areas that are that bad that can't be repaired hopefully i will get some pictures and post them on the site but any help on how to to repair cowl vent would be greatfully appreciated. My dad is plumber and he has an awesome set of tools we can fix it.

As long as his toolbox contains a MIG welder, spot weld remover and a grinder you are good to go .... do a search for cowl repair ...

check the power steering front seal, control valve, slave cylinber( piston rod ain't bent )
and interconnecting hoses. check the exaust manifold for cracks. the rest ie easy to check on a lift. don't rush your self. most important is the brakes! do a panic stop with
out wheel lock up!! ask for any maintnance records and parts reciets. the owner is asking
a pretty penney and if the car checks out , low ball at 1,200.00!!

Since when is 2,000 a pretty penny? Most decent ones go for at least that. More most of the time.
