I am looking for the TV cable to hook up my AOD to my carb in my maverick. Has anyone tried using a cable from an 85 Mustang? Any good aftermrket cables?
I would try one from an '84 or so Lincoln Town Car. Looks to me like it would work great with a carburetor setup.
85 Mustang was a carb or throttle body, right? I used my kickdown lever for a bit, my donor car had a throttle body that pushed the lever, not pulled. I now use the Lokar AOD TV cable.
74 merc, I asked this question on another thread---How do you adjust the kickdown lever on a AOD? The one I have came from a T bird with throttle body, going to use a carb. Looks like it pushed originaly.
from http://www.txchange.com/aodadj.htm This is how I did mine, but I didn't actually mark the cable. I'd recommend using a black sharpie marker rather than scuffing a $75 cable with a hacksaw like they recommend. I did mine before I read this, and when I tried it this way to ensure it was right, I wound up exactly where I had it .
I had to play with my timing a bit, the engine and AOD have to be kinda in sync for it to shift right. Get the tranny right, then play with the engine. To really make it all work right, you need to do some valve body work if you have a better than stock setup.
