The fenders that are on there now are pretty straight, if not completely straight. Besides, you can see the lean from standing behind the car, it is that noticeable. The ENTIRE car leans, not just different spacing between the wheels and fenders. I went ahead and swapped the rear springs right-to-left, and left the slapper bars off (they are getting in the way with all the assembly/disassembly I have been doing back there lately). I also left the makeshift shim off that I put on yesterday...I just wasn't comfortable driving the car with it 'rigged like that. I still have 3/4" lean toward the driver side, but it is honest lean, not semi-fixed with the shims.
If I do what fordmaster says, can I just jack the front and back wheels up, put them on stands so that the rear axle is level and the front suspension is level, and then take measurements on the frame (taking the wheels and suspension completely out of the equation)? I know this won't be measuring the suspension problems, but should get me a good idea on the frame...
Ok guys go out to your cars, looking dead on from the front is your front bumper slight ly higher on one side( sorry can't remember which side). I think these cars are prone to twisting in subframe due to torque every mav or comet I have seen seems to have a bumper going slightly down hill. Add to the fact this example got the fender tweeked, I'd say that side of the car is slightly bananna shaped. I just wonder if anyone else ever noticed the front bumper being off slightly ( I have a big bumper car not sure if small bumpers exhibit this or not). My car has never been in an accident
Everyone (or at least many guys) have complained of a lean to the driver side. I would LOVE to tell people it is from the excessive torque applied to the wheels by my engine If it is frame twist, can it be corrected, and would some mods keep it corrected (I am thinking something along the lines of roll bars, sub frame connectors (I don't know what those are, but they sound like they might be applicable here))? If so, I will live with the lean until I get to roll caging it, then have everything straightened out and reinforced.
OK, finally dropped the passenger side with a 1" drop kit from Autozone, and the car now sits 1/4" low on the driver side!!! I HAVE REACHED MY GOAL OF GETTING IT WITHIN 1/4" :bananaman Too bad I had to use a bandaid fix to do this. One thing to keep in mind for future reference is that the 1" drop block mounted on the PASSENGER SIDE dropped the DRIVER side another 1/4" and gave me an overall fix of only 1/2"...both sides moved, and the final number was only half the distance of the block. Definitely NOT what I would have expected.
The dog is usually on the passenger side of the car...but, the car is hers, so, I cannot control where she is at any given time When people ask, I tell them "the car is hers, I am just the mechanic and chauffeur"
