Hey everyone! Thanks for all the help with my questions on mavericks! And to all the people that I've contacted trying to find a nice one cheap, THANKS AGAIN! Strangely enough I ended up finding a rust free Nevada car right here in my own back yard!!! It's a 302 w/AT (soon to be a 4 speed). Fresh paint and new interior rounded the whole deal out. I've already gotten rid of the hub caps and substituted some dog dish style caps. My thoughts are to lower it an inch, put on some decent brakes, and build a sleeper out of it. I can't wait! I'm sure that you will all be hearing from me this winter as I search for parts! If you have any suggestion, drop me a line. Thanks again everybody!
Thanks Jeremy. My first car was a Mercury Cyclone Spoiler and I had painted it this exact same color. This car was meant for me, that I'm sure.
congrats!!!!!!!!!!! we are here to help. just go to the "parts wanted" section of this board for stuff you need. as far as advise goes... you are in the right place. the silver is awesome. next step is to join the maverick comet club! you certainly have a car worth showing.... how 'bout some under hood shots?
Ok, this is the embarassing part...keep in mind it won't look like this for long!!! I'm a speed freak so a rebuild will be done in the next year. AND keep in mind I only paid $1800 for it and it does run well.
Nice Ride!!! Congrats on your find, sounds like the best part was that you didn't have to go far to find it!
I like that color too!! Mine was originally silver and I wondered how it would look on a Maverick. Really nice car!! Congrats! Scott
Thanks everyone! Hey, to those who race, would you go 302 or 351??? I know that cubes are everything and I used to run a 429 bored and stroked to 521, but is the hassle to put it worth it to go 351???
Personally, I'd go with a built bored and stroked 351. "There's no replacement for displacement!" It'll be as much of a hassle to install as the 302 block. 'Luck.
I've got to agree, the four speed is the only way to go. I learned when I was 16 and raced them ever since. Please don't ask how many decades that's been! I'm starting to get sensitive here! Didn't I read here somewhere that headers and spark plug access are a MAJOR pain with a 351? That would be the only reason that I'd avoid that scheme. Well that and the whole sleeper deal, but I think that I could overcome the sleeper issue by just ignorance on most peoples part. Here is another question on the 351w, are there as many intakes available for them?
Picture your 302 with about an inch less clearance on each side. If 351 is enough cubes for you, I would stroke the 302.
