I don`t know when I will finally get ready to do it ...but my plan is to put a 408w in my `72 after cutting the towers back, and I`m going to use the Hooker 6208 headers I`ve bought for the project. I want to know if anyone has actually done this yet? I know a few of the guys with windsors in their cars here but I wanna see the 351w,cut towers, and 6208 headers all done on one car.
That is the 1.75" swap header for 65-66 Stangs, correct? If so, someone here posted a write up on it a while back. They had to do some fitment mods here and there. The author of the post chose to make all the mods to the car itself, rather than flattening and dinging tubes to accomodate the car. There are some 302 guys using those headers too though. For the big tube factor. Seems they fit 302 in our cars better than 351... The 2 biggest problems I remember were: 1: A tube hitting the firewall (Stangs have a little more room between back of head and firewall) BFH on the firewall was used. 2: A tube hitting the passenger frame rail. Slight interference. Most of us would probably flatten a section of that tube, but the author trimmed and boxed the frame rail right at that spot. I have saved any and all pics posted of those headers in a 351 Mav because I hope to use them in the same one day... Dave
Dug around and found the pics on the swap. The car did have 351w, 6208s, and shaved towers. Some highlights: A bit of casting had to be ground off steering box. The frame clearance that I mentioned. The firewall that I mentioned. A bit of trimming from one of the engine mounts. (nothing major) And then the usual tight fit of the oil filter on 351 swaps... I recommend a remote filter from my experience. The pics show a filter that probably won't come off the engine now that it is installed, and the headers come very close... Close enough to heat the oil. If you post your email, I have very detailed pics to send. Dave
Thanks , I was planning to use the 90 degree adapter for the oil filter to solve that problem I`ll send you my email in a PM .
ive heard of lifting the engine for plugs, which is already a pain especially if you foul them the first couple times before you get the carb tuned in. but lifting it for a filter change? yechhh. too bad he didnt do the remote filter
I did a 351w swap years ago with the stock front end...and the filter came right off. Weird...course, maybe the 10+ years of drag strip abuse had taken its toll on the chassis and warped it just right to where the filter would come off easy.
i had no problems removing the oil filter on my 351w in my 71. it was the *&^%$^&(*&&^^^% sparkplugs that got me.
It looks aweful close in the pic, but I could be wrong. Sorry... I know my Cleveland could not mount the stock filter in stock position. I made an assumption about the W. Dave
Without finding a bolt on 1 5/8 or 1 3/4 header solution for the windsor swap, I guess I will go with the 6208's. I plan to shave the towers. Can someone please send me those pics mentioned earlier? Thanks, Jamie fishart@olg.com
I would love to see these pics as well. I need new headers and I'm looking for headers that will fit. Maybe someone could post them to the gallery? bronco@mmedia.is
