I have a 76 Maverick, 250 and C4 auto. The problem is confusing to me....
First off, I have tuned the engine, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel pump, filter, air filter, and cleaned out the gas tank and added a fuel filter to the fuel sending unit.
Now my problem is when driving down the road, about 30 minutes, the engines starts sputtering and wants to die. Then after loosing a few mile per hour the engine eases back up to speed. Then it runs great again for about another 15 minutes and then it acts up again.
The electronic module is a Duraspark and I have no idea how old the coil is. Please help I really need to get this car going.
    Thanks,
    Ken

When you say that you "added" a filter to the sending unit, what does that mean?

    Hi Tom,
It's the screen filter that goes on the fuel sending unit. Mustang Unlimited part number: F2253. The paper filter that was on the fuel pickup was in pieces.
Mustang Unlimited suggested that the Electronic Module is the culprit.

Problem resolved, it was the duraspark module. AutoZone tested the my old module and found it has a leakage.:bananaman So I bought a new module, p/n F102 and a coil C832G.

Glad it turned out OK, so you did not add a filter you just replaced the pick up screen, had me thinking about that one.

You are correct, I added the pick up screen. I have a new filter to add to the carb and already have a new filter just before the pump.

No I didn't, the pickup tube for the mustang is about 1 1/2 inch too short. We went through about 3 sending units and 5 tanks. Mavericks are a X@@X car. I think the sending unit is spot welded on the pickup tube. That said, you might be able to break the spot weld and exchange the sending units.
There was nothing wrong with my sending unit.
