I got the Mav back on the road after a long bout with bad vibes due to some imbalancing  . I took it out for a few quick runs and noticed that in 2nd gear around 5000 rpm it starts to cut out.

Checked the rev limiter chip, it's set at 6500 rpm, double checked the timing and its advanced but I'm not sure exactly how much. Feels like its leaning out. I was wondering if that in all my haste putting the motor together (my first one) I may have skimped out on the mechanical fuel pump. It's a stock replacement, off the shelf from a local parts house.

The car pulls HARD all the way thru first, and then in high second starts to bog:huh: . Any advice? And if it is the fuel pump what after market pump would work well?

carter makes a good hiperf mech pump. usually about $60. how big are your fuel lines? are they crimped/flattened any where? clogged filter? clogged tank strainer?

check the floats in your carb too. they may have enough gas in the bowls to get you through 1st gear, then get sucked dry.

the fuel lines all look okay and are the stock lines and I have a new fuel filter before the carb. I haven't checked the tank strainer though or the carb bowls :slap: .
