Well everything is out now, with no more surprises. I am pleased that there is not a spec of rust on the backside of the quarter panels. The car is pretty much solid as a rock except for the minor surface rust on the floors. There is alot more crap and paper and stuff to vaccume out but that will have to wait till tomarrow. To late at night to be running my dad's big shop vac now, so I'm done for the night. I probably will not be putting the original carpet back in. My dad said he has a roll of grey carpet he bought back when he was building his Comet, but he decided to put blue carpet in instead. I will probably be putting the grey carpet in. Shouldn't look to bad with a mostly black interior, and it will only be temporary in the grand scheme of things.
If it were me.... I'd park that car and fix all the problems it has. That car does scream the old F.O.R.D. saying....unless you just can't live without driving it Jamie. Reminds me of a car a fellow I used to work with drove. He drove close to 150 miles round trip everyday to work. Drove the absolute worse Mopar with a slant 6 in it. Every weekend was spent working on that car so he could drive it in Monday. We figured over the course of 3 years he spent close to $3600 on repairs to to mention gas...and he still worked on it every weekend. Not out of love either.
This car is reliable. I can get it in it right now and drive it anywhere. I can not park it right now and will not be able to until this coming summer, MAYBE. The car runs and drives great. Just dosen't look that great. I don't work on it every weekend because I have to, I work on it because I want to. I'm 18 and this car is my only form of transportation and will be for some time to come. To be honest I am in no hurry.
I got into this post , of course, to see how to take the back seat out, I know I have had mice that took up residence when the car was idle for several months, ( I live on 2 acres in the country). Anyway, I hope to God I don't run into this crap. One thing though a few months back I literally watched a good sized gardner snake slither under the car , then up , I can only assume it hid between the the tranny and floor boards, I hope it helped keep the mice down ! I've been able to drive it every couple of days lately but, I recently took a 3 day weekend to KC , and when I went out to Start it Monday morning A mouse ran out from under it. Nothing , ( in my opinion), is worse on a car than sitting extended periods. Unless of course it is sitting extended periods at the bottom of the ocean I'm gonna pull that seat soon... hope nothing slithers or jumps out !!
Well, the above car is now wrecked and once again sitting out in a field. This time up on blocks with the entire interior pulled out so no rats or field mice decide to take up residence in it again. Basically it's just a shell with the windows and most of the wireing still there. Got quoted $550 to straighten it out the other day, so it will be back on the road within a couple of years. Good luck pulling yours apart! It's no fun when mice have been in it, thats for sure.
