About 2 months agon, I found a '72 Maverick 2 door with a 250/C4 and factory air at a local junkyard. Since there were so many parts I wanted from it, I just bought the whole car for $500. When I got it home, I couldn't find any reason for it being junked. It turned over easily, had good, even compression on all cylinders and was complete other than the gas tank, transmission pan and carburator that had been either removed or damaged by the salvage yard. Even the entire electrical system checked out fine after putting a new battery in it. Sooo, I decided to try and resurect this car. New radiator, hoses, themostat, carburator, gas tank, all rubber lines. (All these parts were on the shelf destined for the other project car, so this was not really a risk.) Well, today, I finally gat the last piece that I needed before I could try to fire the car. 2 gallons of gas in the new Mustang gas tank, a soda bottle half full of gas to prime the carb, turn the key....Whoo Hoooo!!! It fired up and ran until the gas ran out. Prime the carb again. 5 seconds of idle...Again...and she runs!!!!! It idles about 800 rpms, with a slightly uneven idle. Probably the not so new points. Smoothes out at about 1200 rpm. The only major issue is the exhaust system is shot.. as in full of holes. (Ticked off the neighbors cause it sounds like open exhaust.):evilsmile I guess all that is left is for me to put in the Pertronix and finish the 5 lug / disc brake conversion that is underway. Total cost when back on the street will be about $1500 bucks. Not bad considering that to buy just the parts that I wanted off this car was going to cost me over $1200.
Nothing like pulling one from the circling vultures and eventually, the jaws of death!!! Good work!!!
Another one saved from the crusher. Nicely done. Congrats! Have you updated this thread yet? --> http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=12794
Love those good finds. Good luck with it. Once it's all purty you'll be able to tell everyone it's just a junker you found.
