Hmmm.....I think that is the thingamabob that connects to the watchamacallit. You have to check the little doohicky in the back to make sure that it is connected.
Whatshisname just had to do the same if you need help. He may have pics that we can see!

j/k-if you can't post a pic, describe what you are referring to and we will try and help.

I'm going to have to disagree with Seth. I believe that is the piston return spring.

It performs basically the same function as a thingamabob in a multi dimensional sense. Of course when Mars aligns with Jupiter on Febuary 31st, the thingamabob is stronger to the 3rd power, so they aren't quite the same.

    mystery part

Ok seth I'll try to describe it since I still can't post pic. Back by rear spring shackle there is bolted to the frame a peice of ~1/4' steel with 1 1/2 ' hole in it. It is about 8' long X 6' wide , looks like it might hold the spring from shifting ???
    Thanks

In my head, I know what you are talking about. I've seen them a million times. Damned if I know what they are called though.

Sounds like the tie down location for when the car was shipped on the truck when new......

8 feet long by 6 feet wide? I think it's called the back half of your car! :)

Or it could be the lower spring plate .. that clamps to your axle & spring ... and the bottom of the shock connects to it.

It is the tie down that was used in transport and its purpose has been served.

    O K got it

Thanks for the answers and the chuckles. Apparently it's a transport tie down and not needed anymore. Again thanks for your answers......mac :tiphat:

Got to be real careful about tieing down a car using the suspended frame. Hit a hard enough bump and the body can move enough to unhook itself unless you have the suspension majorly compressed. And even then it puts alot more stress on your tie downs. I always tie down to the rear and lower A arms out by the ball joint. That way the body can bounce up and down and the tiedowns only hold it in place. JMO

Yea, thats the thing I hooked a chain to to drag my friends broke down Toyota Corolla back to my house and then to his. :) Worked great. His car didn't have anything like that so we had to tie the chain around his front cross member. That didn't work so good. The chain came loose twice from his car. Luckilly both times he had enough momentum to coast into a gas station where we could hook the chain back up. Good times.
