I want to run 15x8 in rear and 15x7 in front Magnum500s .The rear wheels have 4.5" bs and the front have 4.25bs. What tire sizes have been known to work well with or without spacers? I do not want to use spacers but if I have to I will. Thanks for any advice given...

If you have the stock rearend, they will hit the leafsprings with 4.5 backspace....

Mine don't hit the springs. I have a half inch between the tire and the spring. I am running 265-50-15 tires in the rear and 225-60-15 in the front using those same magnum 500'S.http://www.maverickcometclub.org/2004roundup/DCP_3781.jpg

Nick- That is the look I am after ! T.L. - What tire size did you try? I have read on board that some say they must have at least 1/4" spacer and some not.I would like to hear from as many as possible about using this wheel size. If I do need a spacer does anyone know where to buy quality ones? Nick, what tire brand did you use and do they rub anywhere? Thanks for your input.

I am running Cooper Cobra tires, no spacers, no rolled wheel wells. The car has been lowered and it still does not rub anywhere. The rear is stock. It fits like a glove.

Gee, is there that much inconsistancy in Maverick rearend widths? With a 4.25" backspace, I get rubbing on the inside frame-rail with a 245/60 (and they almost touch the leafsprings). That is the sole reason that I want a Granada rearend--to puch the wheels outward a little. I'm running a 235/60 right now...

You do realize that your front tires are slightly taller than the rears, right?...

    Rear end widths

You might want to consider the early Mustang 8" rear end - It is slightly wider than the Maverick by about 1.25" overall - Has the same spring perch spacing and drum brake setup . Might give you the tire to spring clearance you are looking for without rubbing on the outside wheel lip .

Very slight. You can't tell the difference with them sitting side by side. It was the closest I could get it given the different widths. It rides perfect.

T.L.,,, yes there is that much difference in our cars out there. Just does not seem to be much really known as to why, but I really think maybe different suppliers on certain lines or build plants. Case in point, my 72 grabber which was my first maverick and I put a set of 8" cragars and some L 60 tires,, no problem,, I took them off and kept them when I traded for my Stallion ( still have the cragars and tires ,, they was my graduation present) when I put them on my Stallion I had to run 1/8" spacers or they rubbed on the leaf springs.

Wow a lot of diference from car to car. 4.25 bs w/245-60s some rub on springs ,4.5 bs w/265-50s no rub anywhere. For the most part I have heard that 4.5 bs is too much for stock 8" in a Mav. Its time to get the tape out. What was the stock back space @3.75? Stock 8" 56.5" ?
