Hello everyone! Good to see that the board is working again! Anyway, I am ready to get some traction bars and it just so happens that the Summit catalogue just arrived. I was wondering if it really matters what brand you buy or if they all pretty much do the same thing. Basically I am looking for street use with occassional track use. I want them cause when I floor it off the line I can't hook up to save my life. Summit has ones in all price ranges so I thought I should get some idea about what I need. My car is pretty stock as far as the differential and tranny, 2.79's and the C-4, although I do have the V-8 conversion. I will hopefully be getting gears soon! Lastly how hard are bars to install? Thanks Jeri
I have used slapper bars in the past. They did the job well but really stiffen up the ride. They are about the cheapest set up you can go with. I noe have Caltracs and, in my opinion, are the best thing going. Although kinda expensive, worth every penny. Very easy to adjust so you can leave them loose for the street, and tighten them up in a few seconds to do some racing. http://www.calvertracing.com/info/info.htm
Dennis is right about the Caltrac's they are a very nice traction bar setup, a little harder to put on then a set of slapper bars but much better traction. I had a chance to help a friend this week put some on his car and the craftsmanship was nothing short of perfect, but the cost was about $350.00 total. There are a lot of options out there for you to think about, but for a mild 302 with a nice set of tires you might just want to stay with something in your price range. The ones you don't want would be something like the SSM lift bars, now don't take me wrong they would HOOK your car up but for the street the ride would be very stiff. The Lakewood or Competition slapper bars would more then likely work fine for your ride. As always this is just my 02. Terry Gates AKA Bossmav
Now I have another question, what would work better between the universal from Summit or the Lakewood Universals? Thanks Jeri
I couldnt find a picture of the Summit ones but if they look identical, chances are they are Lakewoods. Summit dosent make anything. They just buy a huge quanity of stuff and get the manufacture to put Summits name on it.
I found some really cheap one's in Jegs catalouge. you can get them in chrome, or yellow for under $40. Of course the chrome is pobably not good quality.
Jerilyn To get a idea of what they look like you can go to autozone, pepboys or any of the discount parts houses and check out the traction bars. Almost all of the keep a pair or two in stock and some of them will even give you the same price as jegs or summit. Terry Gates AKA Bossmav
