No spark :(

    Ok, so after spending a couple days on the 71 thats been sitting 10 years the engines all lubed up, fresh fluids, new battery, clean gas, but im nto getting any spark :( , i took one of the plugs out and looked at it while turning it over a few times and nothing..i'm hoping its just the plugs but i figured i'd get some tips on what to check out...

    Bop the cap off and "pop" the points to see if you have spark. If you do put the cap on and check the coil wire by pulling it off the coil slipping the boot back and putting it close to something metal to see if it fires a spark. If it doesn't try another coil. If it doesn't spark at the points and they are new, clean them really good the oil off your fingers will cause it not to spark. other wise take a piece of emery(sp?) paper and slide it between the contacts and clean them that way then pop them again with a screwdriver to get the dust out. That may be a start for you

    i'd start with replacing the wires plugs,(make sure to gap them right)dist.cap,rotor,points,condenser,and coil,and while your at it,i'd replace the voltage regulator,just for good measure.after that you should be able to fire it.:)

    Ahhh.....I told you in the first post about this car that points corrode and should be replaced.

    yea i shoulda paid more attention sorry lol, i've been running back forth from my gf's house to my computer since i started working on it..i dont have alot of experience with older cars and such...i'm used to old motorcycles :/, so if i go to ..say autozone, they should have the points there?

    By replaceing all that at one time before the car has even tried to start, you are creating more potential problems. Need to do eliminate each part in a logical order before replaceing it.

    Points would be the first thing I would check. You can bump them open and close with a screw driver and they should visibly spark.
