Cool nice job, this thread is kind of funny,i tore apart my wife's 5.0 merc capri to build my Comet, and now she has claimed it !!. Something to do with me taking apart hers to build mine.Oh well i guess it is still ours haha.

This is a response to a PM that I got...I thought I would post it here in case anybody else wanted to know some of this stuff....

The radiator is a 26x19 ford style by Northern Radiator

The fan is a Proform version (knockoff) of the blackmagic 2800 cfm fan for a 5.0 mustang (alot cheaper!!!!!!!), but some custom fab work went into both of these installs.

That radiator will not bolt into a 69.5 maverick (I dont know about other years)...the rad hit on the frame, and the frame had to be notched, and boxed for it to fit lower in the engine compartment. and then we used Astro van 4.3 lower radiator mounts that were modified, and welded to the Maverick subframe to hold it in. The fan sort of bolted in but we had to fab a mount for the top which is the black panel over the radiator and fan.
The clearence from the tip of the pump to the core is 4.5 in....

I will try to get some close up pics, but the car isnt here right now. The boyfriend took it to his job today to wire wheel the underneath of the car and POR-15 it to make sure that new england doesnt have anymore of an effect on my baby....

And he is cleaning my carbs out, because we were running the car on a lawnmower gas tank before the fuel cell was plumbed, just to work the bugs out of it...and apparently there was crap in it which is clogging up my carbs...oops...wont do that again...

I should be taking my first ride in my car today....as long as the 2-4 in of snow we are supposed to get today holds out...

    Project is looking good.(y)
I have some questions for you. Looks like you have a similar radiator to what I have in my car (Northern) What size is it? 19x26 or 19x22

Can you measure the distance from the tip of the water pump to the radiator core. Looks like you have more room in yours:hmmm:

What size and type of fan are you running?

Can you get some close up pics for me? If so you can send them to

    Keep up the great work!

This is sort of off topic of this thread but I am curious if all the years of Mavericks have the same doors...(2 door cars.) I have 2 rustfree fenders that I am switching over to my car, but one is the later year big bumper maverick fender, so we are going to make it work as long as the body lines are the same...so if the doors are all the same the fender lines should be the same too...Any info would be great....thanks everybody!

the fenders will line up at the door, but the big bumper fenders dont have the right notch and bolt holes for the bumper valance and bottom front valance. you can cut and shape them (i was doing this for a while before i found some good ones from a 70 in the yard).

Thanks for the info....Thats what we are planning to do...I am in Connecticut, and there are no solid Mavericks to be found up here....So I have to make due with what I can with the parts I have...Thank god my car is very solid compared to some, or I dont know where I would find the body panels affordably.

Thanks, and yes thats my 79 in the background,i love that truck!!,i've had it for 11 years now and have owned evrything from a 1981 f150 to a 1991 f150 and still stay with the old ford.I don't have any good pics right now cause the computer crashed last week and i lost everything, plus it's in ugly winter mode right now [ crappy wheels and a snowplow] i also have a 1978 Bronco 4" lift and a 460. WOOPS forgot to add quote from sierra grabber.

Cool goood to hear from you Ron.I'm hoping to have the Comet done by May but we'll see you know that shortage of money thing haha. And as far as the his and hers Mav/Comet thing i don't see it happening unless i find a super clean one [and you know how clean southern ontario cars are] or i sell my 64 Merc pick up which i've had for 17 yrs[i was 14 when i got it] and buy a southern one. Thanks again i will keep in touch it's always good to have some local resources. DEREK.
