Howdy all- I had a '73 Maverick for ten years. Had a 302, Edelbrock Twisted Torker intake, Holley 4-bbl, headers, C4, B&M shifter, roller rockers, and a Pete Jackson gear drive. Unfortunately a few years back I was heading home on the interstate, looked down, and the oil pressure read ZERO. Turns out the drive key in the bottom of the distributor rounded out. Engine was toast. Instead of rebuilding the engine for the third time, I decided to sell it as-is. In any case, Mavericks are great cars, and I'll always have a soft spot for them!
No rock throwing here (I bruise easily)... but even though I do miss my good ol' Mav, I figured that life is short enough to where I wanted to try something a little different, and picked up a 1968 Cougar. I originally got the Mav as a daily driver to replace my '67 Stang, because when the 6-71 blower went on the Stang it was relegated out of the daily driver league. That Mav did me great, although I was a little hard on its engine. At one point I was seriously considering a tunnel ram on it, but never did bite that bullet (I see others here have done tunnel rams and blowers with their Mavs- definitely cool stuff). I kept track of where it went though, and periodically drive past it. The new owner was kind enough to let me open the door and smell it again.
My dad had a '67 Cougar, dark green with black bucket seat interior. 289/3 speed manual, rust free. Cool cars for sure. Love the sequential turn signals! I could have got the car for $300 from my dad a couple of years ago. Still kicking myself in the ass over that one! My uncle has a '69 XR7 factory 428 Cobra Jet car. White with black vinyl top and black interior.
