Ok all you Arizona guys, I have been out of touch with working on cars for quite some time so I need some help. Do any of you have a good general automotive machine shop that you can recommend? I want to develop a working relationship with a shop that I can feel comfortable with using for my 71 Grabber needs. I am in Goodyear so I am looking for something on the west side of town. Things like turning brake drums, glass beading etc. Also, at some point I will be looking for someone to do some engine work like balancing, boring, turning etc in a high performance setting. I have used Chuck's Speed shop many years ago. Anyone have any recent experience with Chuck's? Thanks!
theres a place called "sunnyslope" hes been in business for a long time, does only fords, they deffintly know there stuff,
I asked about D J MACHINE PERFORMANCE ENGINES in a earlier thread (there in Phoenix also) but only got one response. Wish I could help you more.
im in tucson and the last engine shop i used fed me a lot of crap.... i too am looking for an engine shop that is trustworthy and reasonably priced don graham lives in the phx area.... ask him.. he might know of a few places
my last engine was built by zimmerman racing. good but not cheap. he dosen't work on cars, just builds the engines. he's off of greenway in phoenix. #is 602-938-7316. don't be in a hurry. he's always busy. a lot of the guys at the track also use basko engines. there in phoenix also, i believe. can't help you on the local mechanics or shops as i'm 60 miles from phoenix. i've never heard of chuck's. go to lopers or one of the other parts stores and pick up a rodding and racing newspaper (it's a monthly). a number of the local shops advertise in there. it also lists all the upcoming events like shows and cruises where you might be able to talk to some of the local car guys.
Tucson I haven't used them....yet. But a looonnnng time builder/racer recommended Larry's in Tucson, 623-5373. Says he doesn't even check him anymore, always right. But like Don said, anyone good is not going to be cheap, but IMO, the extra money is worth it if you really get someone good. More power, more longer.
rick, i've heard a lot of good things about larry's in tucson. another one i've heard of recently in the phoenix area is standard machine. i don't know the number but i could get it if anyone needs it.
