Was looking at J.C. Whitney for leaf springs. They offer 3 or 4 leafs for same price. Anyone tell me the major differences. I have a 69.5 (will this effect anything ?) Thanks, Darrel
I bought a set of 4 leafs from them. They fit great and did not raise the car up any. Only problem I had is the rear shackel eyes are about 1/8 bigger diameter than the bushings. Nobody else seems to have had this problem. I'm not sure if it was just a fluke. I called the manufacturer of the springs & they would not help me so I called JC Witney and after a couple of weeks, they said they cant help me. Its not a huge deal because once tightened, nothing is going anywhere. Next time I go to Carlisle I will look for slightly larger bushings.
Darrel I'm not sure which is best. All my Mav's are original Leafs as far as I know & my 73 & my son's 77 both have 3 Leafs. My 74 has 4 Leafs. My 74 rides rougher but I'm not sure if 4 Leafs is the reason or not.
I don't know, I would like a little more height than stock but I don't want the ride of a truck either ! Thought about just adding a leaf to my originals but they are just about straight across !!!
If you get the 3-leaf, they will eventually sag just like your originals did. Also; I got tired of bottoming-out on the pinion snubber when going over dips in the road with the originals, so I installed the 4-leaf (from JCWhitney). The spring-eyelets were no bigger than the bushings, so I don't know why Dennis had that problem. The 4-leafs did not raise the car in the rear....it sat level. I used my original stock rear shackles. it does ride noticably stiffer than the old 3-leafs did, but this ain't a luxury car, so I don't mind...
springs Well I kept the stock 3 leaf in the front. And put 4 on the back. The ride handles great this way. The car would start to shake at about 75. Now I can max out the speed up to 120 and it bearly starts to shake. Plus it raised the back just a hair to give it a more agressive look.
