Just installed my Hooker 6901s, fit like a snuggly fitting glove, but they fit with out a hitch. Pass side went right in, the driver side I had to lift the motor a bit to get the header in, but they went. I would like to thank all you guys for your wisdom and the opinions on how the other headers fit. Just an FYI, AutoZone carries the headers for $140, and I had mine in 3 days(y) :drink: :bouncy:
On a side not, my being an idiot, I installed the gaskets upside down so I need to flip them, but I only have 2 bolts in on each side:coco: :49:

good deal. if that's the only mistake you make i would think that puts you near the genius class.:bananamanp.s. i like the header gaskets that you just drop them down on the 2 ends after you get the bolts started. :)

sounds like a plan, what size are those slots again Scott, I wonder how they'd look on my Ranger.

I am no where near mufflers yet, still need to get a trans in, dist., water pump, and a fuel pump, but I'm getting there, just slow

just out of curiosity, can anyone decode a PN for me? RF-E7PE-6059-AA, need to figure out if this timing cover is for a standard or reverse rotation water pump.
    TIA

That's most likely a standard rotation pump, E7 is '87. For that matter i don't know if the timing covers are even different between the standard and reverse-rotation pumps.

I'm not sure myself that there is a difference, and I guess when you have a serp belt, you may need a rev. rot. pump, I think I'll order the standard and see where that leaves me

well, me being in idiot, never check to se eif my pitman arm cleared, it doesn't, actually hits hard, which has me wondering what did I do wrong? does the tab on the v8 mounts go towards the bottom or the top of the mount, are the NAPA engine mounts wrong, I had a lot of trouble getting the mounts to line up, or I wonder if the motor is some how crooked in the mounts, any insight is helpfull.
    Thanks
    Shaun

Will these headers fit the 351W with heads that are supposed to be from a 1977 engine?

The headers in my car have been cut and welded + dented with a hammer in several places, and I would like to replace them with something that fits better.

Is it possible to adjust the sideways positon of the engine with the engine mounts? In my car one of the header pipes almost touches the shock tower on the drivers side (see picture), on the passenger side there is plenty of room.

Mine have cut and welded towers also, but I have 1/2" clearance on the driver side, and touching (barely) on the passenger side. Not sure if it has anything to do with any fender benders it has been in, or just ALL THAT TORQUE forcing the engine mounts to bend :biglaugh:

Everyone has different clearance issues when dropping in headers.

I figured out where my problem is, I have the mounts on the wrongs sides, when my back is better, I'll have to pick the motor back up and swap the mounts around.

Will swapping the mounts move the engine around? I am pretty sure mine are stock, since I doubt Great Grandma Della ever moved them around.

If so, I will swap mine and see what happens.

I believe that the way I have it now, it pulls the motor forward, if I put them in the way the chiltons book shows, it should move abck about an inch I think, and that is about the clearence I need
