Got my gauges placed. I need to replace my oil pressure sender with the new one. Problem is it will not fit where the old one is, too big. The old one is located on the drivers side front next to the fuel pump. According to a wiring schematic I have for my 302, it says it's located on the right hand rear corner of engine. Anyone know where I can place the new sender?
See Pic This is the only place to my knowledge to have an oil pressure sender on a small block Ford. You mentioned 'gauges', are you referring to actual gauges or idiot warning lights? I have both using the brass fittings in the picture. This moves the light sender out away from the block-but it would fit without the extension allowing me to run a mechanical gauge along with the light. This is standard hardware stuff from True Value. Reply They are actual electronic gauges (don't like idiot lights.) Since they are electronic, can I not just use the original sender? I tried it, but I don't get any reading. The sender that came with the oil gauge is huge!! About the size of the gauge itself.
You have to use the sender that came with your aftermarket guage ... idiot light senders won't work ...
Got my fittings, elbows, etc. from Ace Hardware this morning. Had to bring the sender up over the fuel pump. Actually looks pretty good . No leaks, everything actually came out perfect. Thanks for the plumbing advise.
ok guy's what size is the socket that fits the the sending unit for the the idiot light and what size pipe did you use to extent the sending unit to put the gauge with it.as far as lenght and thread size it that make sense. the hardware store is on the way home from work and a 30 min drive back to.so if can give me the sizes I can get it on the way home instead of driving back to it thanks.
I have no idea what sizes they are. I took the electric light sending unit with me and matched it up. Print the pic and take it with you, they should be able to help. Seth
It is a special size socket, made just for sending units. Just stop in at any auto parts store and ask for a sending unit socket. If you have a friend at any auto repair shop, see if you can borrow one. Another one of those specialty tools that you buy and use a couple times in your life (unless you do repairs for a living). Might be regular size socket that works, but I've always used the special one that's made for it.
