Hi, I didn't see a search function, so I thought I would just ask. My '73 2dr 250 is in need of new springs all around. The front coils seem easy to source and get at a decent price, however the rear leafs I found are more of a challenge. Does anyone have a good supplier for the rear leaf springs? The sag is really begining to bother me now.... One of the springs would not be good for rearching so I just want to get a new pair.
I put the JC Whitney springs in the back. They are ok, but the detailing was a bit sloppy. The bands around the springs were assembled poorly and misaligned compared to the originals, but overall they are ok.
I haven't considered JC Whitney / Warshawski's(sp?) since they moved their operation out of chicago. When I lived near their chicago location I could go there and inspect parts before I paid for them. It's just too much of a crap shoot for mail order.
JC Whitney rear springs JC Whitney catalog has 3 or 4 leafs available. Does 4 leafs give a taller ride height over the 3 leaf? Or is the only difference in ride and stability? Not sure wich ones to get.
The 4-leaf from JC Whitney does not raise the rear of the vehicle if you use your original stock shackles. They just provide a stiffer ride, flatter cornering, and will not sag over the years like the original 3-leafs do. I have heard that the 4-leaf springs from other suppliers have jacked up the rear of people's Mavericks extremely high (too high) and some owners have had to get them de-arched...
Just saw how cheap the JC whitney springs are compared to other places.... Are they made-in-china specials? ? Considering them now and it's only about a 2 hour drive to actually go to their new location should I need to return them.
I bought both the Espo springs and the JC Witney ones. I believe they are the same price. The Espo springs made it easy to see aircraft on landing approches at BWI out of the rear view mirrors. This is what TL was refering to. The JCW ones are made in the US and are the better spring hands down, in my opinion. They did not raise the car at all.
Coolies... Guess I'm going JC whitney then... The ones I've found elsewhere they've wanted $400 or more a pair. JCW wants $120 a pair. I can get new shackle assemblies and bushings from NAPA, I just need to find new U-bolts. (If I'm going to take it apart, I should replace it all) Did you get the 4 leaf or 3 leaf? and how many years ago? ESPO.com doesn't list rear springs for mavs, just fronts.
a buddy of mine bought jc whitney springs, not too sure id recomend them, like he said the bands were miss aligned, and one side sat higher than the other....i dont think there made in america....i bought mine from espo they were perfect
There was absolutely nothing wrong with the Springs that I got from JC Whitney. Delivery was fast too. I got the new U-bolts from ESPO. Yes, it is a good idea to replace everything while you have it all apart. There was nothing wrong with my old shackles, so I media-blasted them, repainted them, and reinstalled them with new bushings. I have been told that the shackles that JC Whitney sells are junk, or raise the rear up or something like that. The springs are very good. if you get a set from them that is defective, you should make them send you a good set...
