Hello, I have a cam the info says use a 3000 rpm stall, When I first started this Mav project I was going for street/strip but have now desided to go hot Street/show car. How much will the 3000 rpm stall affect the drive ablity If i was going to drive it a 100 mile round trip?

    3,000- 6,700

    302° EX 234° EX .544" EX
    110° 4°

Non-computer controlled, naturally aspirated street machines with 9.5-10.5:1compression in 302 CID engines, will find strong mid-range torque and top endhorsepower with this camshaft. Popular with ported, aftermarket, aluminum cylinderheads, matched Victor Jr. style intake and 750 cfm carburetion. 4- or 5-speed manual orC-4 automatic with 3,000 RPM converter and low gears. Good choice for nitrous oxide.

It'll be a little weird at low speeds, and you'll want to be sure you're at least pretty close to 3000 at highway speeds, but you get used to it pretty fast. Make sure you install a transmission cooler. A nice big external one.

    Thanks for your reply.

Since I am not going to drag race the car, I was woundering if a 2500rpm stall with 3.80 gears with 26" tall tires and switch to a dual plan intake to put the torq lower in rpm would be ok. What you all think?

    My engine info below

    89 roller block
gt40p ported heads shaved .040 around 10.5 compression
    6901 hooker headers
    650 holley double pump
    roller Erson cam
289 torqer intake will be changing to rpm air gap

    Thanks Jim

I run a 3000 on the street, no problem.

I'd guesstimate the 2500 unit might be a little less soggy on the street for that combo. Although the chart below seems to indicate the 3K unit. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I ran a 3000 converter on my big block truck with 3:89 and 26" tire. I cruised over 200 miles on many weekends. I always felt it was a "tweener" combination. That is.... "tween" needing more gear at the track and less converter less gear on the street.

My opinion and $0.30 will get you a cup of coffee:tiphat: - but if you are going to stick with the 3000 converter I would step up to the 4:11 or 4:30 gear and keep the single plane manifold. I think you will only be disappointed in fuel mileage. If you are going to change to 2500 converter I would go to a 3:55 gear and build a flatter torque curve with the air gap and cam. Either way you will have a desirable combination.

Thanks everone for your input. I think I will go a head with the 3000 stall 4.11 gear with 26" tires.

    Thanks Jim

i currently run a 4.11, 3200 stall, 26" tire mav on the street & week-end drags (my son races it actually). just understand that at 60 mph the engine is up a little in rpm, and at part throttle driving the car will be soggy & not feel crisply responsive. if you hit the gas sharply, it will be responsive. if this situation would bother you, then go for the lower stall & a little less gear, maybe. just remembered - i just went to 28" tires for the street. helped some on the interstate driving. enjoy.

Chances are....you won't feel any big lag in the converter due to your combination. The converter won't "see" a large torque curve during street driving so you'll have good street manners with that one.
