Just checking...the stock M/C has the front port to the front brakes, and the rear to the rear, right? (please say right, puhlease!)
Rear opening is to the front brakes, front opening is for the rear brakes. Notice that the rear resovour is larger than the front. The front brakes get a larger reserve of fuid as they provide the most brake action.
Ok....this ain't cool... Jayman, both of my resevoirs are the same size. This was a replacement M/C and I THOUGHT that the front went to the front and rear to rear on the stock one. I take it this isn't a year specific item? If it helps any, the front outlet on the M/C is larger than the rear outlet. Is that the way it is on everyones M/C? The larger outlet (front of M/C) goes to the rear, and the smaller outlet (rear of M/C goes to the front). Is that correct? Because I have mine opposite of that...
if the lines hook to the m/c without having to change anything...it is correct. ...frank... (am i correct?)
OKI , carefully, the stock master cylinder usually has one large and one smaller reservior. The larger one is for the front brake system and is usually the rear reservior. The reasons are two fold. For safty, the volume is larger and if a car has disc front brakes, the volume needed by them is larger than for drum brakes. If you have something different then it was not a stock replacment but still can be useable if all conditions are met.
As long as everything bolts up, it's fine. If you can't get the brake lines to screw into the side of it, you can get brake line adapters at any decent auto parts store. Thats what I had to do when I put a new master cylinder on my '74 a while back.
The brakes could save your life. be sure that you have the correct MC for your application. Don't be using adapters with a stock system. They should not be needed. Ford did all the design work for proper balance during braking. All the brake parts you need are available at a local auto parts, especially in California. Just trying to be helpful.
A Lot Of The Ford Master Cly Come With The Adapters The Ones We Sold Which Was A1 Cordone Did Be Careful
Thanks everyone. I did go to the local Autozone, and gave them my application, and had them order the best, new replacement m/c for my 70. Do you think that since I had a drum/drum car, both tanks would be the same size? I guess I should be a little more clear as to what I'm doing. I am building a street/strip car. 90% strip, 10% street. I am completely redoing the brake system. All new lines. I can check the replacement resevoir vs the stock one, but I think they both have the same size tanks. I am bending up new lines, both front and back, for two reasons: 1) The front now has a nice little line-loc on it, and 2) the rears have to be relocated out of the trans tunnel based on NHRA rules. Oh, and 3), the stock brake lines make a mess of the firewall...
