I got a set of headers today, they are used on the 65-67 mustangs, They are block hugger, long tube headers. Yeah, I had to put a dent or 3 in em to clear the tower, but thats no problem compared to what I ran into! On the passenger side, there is one header tube that comes off of #3, that goes down, angles back, then into the collector. It goes right below the starter. Now, it is resting right smack dab on top of the steering. Wont let the engine set all the way down into the mounts. lacks like 1/2. The tie rod, connects to the draglink, right where this tube sits, so it is a very large tie rod end, trying to pass by the header tube. Im thinking of lowering the linkage so it will pass under the header tube, Im not much on the poper terms on steering componets, so bear with me here,, there is a mount, that bolts to the frame inside of the frame that the steering pivots on for side to side movement. Its held on by 2 long bolts. Can I drop this down somehow and not mess up the steering geometry too much?? If I can drop it a inch and a half, I got it made, but can I drop only one side, or am i looking at dropping both sides and lowering the entire assembly? Or, do they make drop links that do this already? Other than this detail, the passenger side header worked pretty good. The drivers side,,, well now,,, Ill have to put it in from the bottom side. I have already lifted the engine out of the mounts and tried,,, bout did not get the header back!! LOL! any help or info would be great, i know,, I know,, its not what your supposed to have on there,, but I like making things work with what I have. ChadS

    chad,
before i would mod. anything, i would put the other header on and see if anything needs to be adjusted on that side. i think the driver side is the side that want fit. my :2cents: ...frank...:bouncy:

Got to go with Frank on this one. If the driver's side won't fit any better....think you need to find another set of headers.

I concur ... if the passenger side does not slide in without massaging .. those headers weren't designed to fit in a Maverick. The drivers side will give you lots more trouble than the passenger side. Hooker 6901 Headers which were made for a Maverick .. literally fall out the bottom of the car on the passenger side when unbolted from the head.

Last thing I would want to do is field modifications on the steering. Its just not a place to take short cuts. Mustang headers are not a bargain at any price when it comes to Mavericks.

like was mentioned before the passenger side usually falls right thru regardless of the brand of header, provided it is intended for a maverick.

I'd keep shopping, save the headaches for other things(y)

I agree those headers are not the ones to use.
I know the Mav engine bay and the parts all look the same as a Mustang but the Mav is of smaller demsions and enough different.
If you have power steering even then the right long tubes will be a pain at the power steering cylinder location..
