*** New Forum can be found here.

I found this post by Mavaholic quite interesting http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3105 and as all posts, they eventually get buried deep into the database and will probably only be seen when a search for “Explorer rear” is performed. I’m sure many people would not even think of installing an Explorer rear unless someone told them about it or they happen to read about it.

I was thinking of setting up a new forum category called “How to” (or something along those lines) that would contain only special/interesting Maverick/Comet posts. This new category would be limited to these special posts and would be easy to browse, as there would not be thousands of posts to go through.

No new posts would be allowed in this category and all posts that you believe should be included would be “reported” to me by using the “Report this post to a moderator” link located above the “edit” button. I then would receive an email about the post and would move it to the category. Once the post is in the new category, it will still be open for replies.

Since I don’t know much about mechanics, I would like to have an editor(s) for this new category(potential candidates would nominate themselves and there would be an ‘election’ held) that would be able to judge if this thread merits the new section and to edit it if necessary. I would like this person(s) to be knowledgeable and take on this position seriously.

Please let me know what you think about this idea and don’t be shy to share your opinions.

that sounds pretty cool. i agree with the idea.. alot of this stuff is kinda repetitious (not that that's a bad thing!!) but it may be neat for some questions to be answered before they are asked, an advantage would be not having to wait for others to respond..

i think even a page or too that lists popular mods (like mII front suspension), out of the ordinary mods (for example the 80's camero/firebird spoilers on the 4-door mavs and comets) and popular conversions/upgrades ( disc breaks, v8) would be pretty cool as well. im thinking more suggestive, like things that have been done, or things that could make your car safer...

i only listed a few examples, i know there is plenty of other stuff that could fall into these categories, all the maverick sites have alot of good info on mods, conversions and upgrades but there are only a few that are updated. don't get me wrong, all the webmasters do a great job, and who knows where we all may be if we hadn't came across witchever site we came across first..

Stephan; sounds like a great idea. It is hard to find a post or article long after it is posted. Let's give it a try.

I just wanted to register my support for this idea.
By the way, I'd love to hear more about that Explorer diff swap. Has anyone ever tried it? I have a Versailles diff ready to gounder my Mav, but I'm hearing all kinds of horror stories about parts costs and availability for it.

    Great idea!

Stefan, I thought it would be a great resource for new members to the board and to those of us who may have read about it before, but weren't ready to tackle that mod yet.

Great idea. I don't think that there is any of us who know everything and even some simpler repairs and mods can be complicated by not understanding how to do it. The info doesn't have to be complicated situations or major mods as there was a post I answered just on how to swap a remote sport mirror. If you don't know, then you simply don't know. It's no reflection on anybody because our expertise varies greatly between all of us. I'll be the first to admit that even with many years of experience with cars, I do not know everything. It's always better to ask then to have a problem during the procedure if you're not sure how something goes together, or sometimes more importantly, how it comes apart. Having a reference page to refer to may be better for some than asking the question in a post because I'm sure there's a few who would be afraid they'd look dumb for not knowing even though I'm sure we wouldn't look at them in that light. In all the years I taught emergency service classes the one idea I preached again and again was that the only dumb question was the one that never got asked. Got for it, Stefan!

I agree. Since we got this Mav. I have received a LOT of help from the members of this board. I know many of the questions I have asked have been covered repeatedly and thoroughly. It would hve been much eacsier to go to a "How To" board than to search through all of the years of archives there are available. Thanks for all of you guys help. Stephan you're doing a great job.

Sounds like a great idea. I certainly would use it for a resource. Only thing, whoever takes on the position of editor is surely to be in for argumentive users. There are several ways up a mountain, and several ways to repair, diagnois, customize, restomod Mavs/ Comets. So whoever is brave, knowledgeable, literate and a bit of time to accomplish this, my hat is off to you!

This is an outstanding idea. I am just a newbie and have already picked up great ideas from this forum. This suggested subject forum would let inexperienced "mechanics" like me to easily find various "how to do" stuff. Also let me say this whole forum is great and the people that contribute are really a neat bunch of folks. All here to help.

    Thanks

    John

    WTG Stef!

    It'll be fine after a break-in period.

The idea of not having an editor might even be a plus, as long as opinions are kept to just that and not become personal slams (which I hope NEVER becomes a norm on this board).

Discussions of different methods to perform the same objective are always intresting to read. Both parties have good points and the end result is a thorough hashing out of things "TO DO" and things "NOT TO DO".

    It'll be fine.

    Thanks again Stef,

    Rick and Others.

(now what's the best set of headers to use again? :D :D )

I also agree with Rick, ideas should not be slammed but rather be added to or suggestions on how to do it differently. You might want to have a moderator monitor the forum to make sure it doesn’t get out of hand. I personally think this would be a GREAT tool for the experienced and novice alike.

    I nominate....

...Mavaholic & Ken Merring as editors.
They both have an interest in the cars
    and both have technical knowledge.

Now, whether or not they have an interest
in being your editor....you had better talk
    with them!

Basically just need to have a Technical Articles section. Other car sites have them...
