ok so now that i live where i need a heater ive decided to repair and reconnect the system on mine. two major problems though. 1) the switch is broken from its post on the back so it doesnt activate the cables. not sure if i can tack weld or modify the one i have. probably just have to replace it either way this leads to problem 2 2) i cant figure out how to get the switch out without removing the dash. i have the tray off and the cover over the switch assembly is off. i think i can get the cables off of the switch, but i cant seem to turn it in a way to pull it out. this is a 71 without a/c btw. the cables all move and everything else seems kosher (except the core im replacing).
if i'm reading this thread correctly the switch is for the blower the cables are easier to remove at the heater box then pull it out as an assembly and if the switch is broken at the housing you may want to remove the plate assembly first then unplug switch and i would try JB WELD
the JB weld sounds tryable. the issue im having getting it out is it doesnt want to clear the hole in the dash, could i just be angling it wrong or does it need to drop from behind downward?
Through the instrument cluster hole is the way I would go also. The assembly is the same for all cars so finding a replacement should be easy. I have a few, email me if you need one.
well i pulled the cluster and pulled out the lever assembly, i hope i didnt damage anything on my cluster it seemed pretty brittle. guess i will find out when its back together.
