Need suggestions for tires with GRIPTION!

G-Force is the same thing as the regular drag radial just a differant tread.. just like the M/T ET Street Radial in the new Sport Cmpact Tread is the same as the American Muscle Car Tire... just differant tread. these are way better for traction then the BFG IMO. but for sure the BFGs will out last the ETs anyday... at least from what i found out myself.

very true however.... don't let the DOT fool you about it being legal on the street. when you get these tires they are already at the min depth for legal tread.. so yes when you first put them on the car they are legal.. however after proably one or two big burn outs they are already beyond the mon leagl tread depth. if the cops and $@! you know what then he can give you a ticket! then again i don't care i'll drive with slicks on streets.

 

Really good point that I didn't take into account. Even though, in Texas, you can drive on bald tires and the cops don't care...you just cannot get it inspected the next year. Mine are currently almost slicks, pretty sure they are well below the min tread depth, but it slid past the last inspection.

 

first, if you are going to the track, what class are you going to run in? check the rules before buying. sometimes street class requires DOT tires. also safety rules are different. slicks have additional requirements, like a front driveshaft loop for one. check things before buying.

my sons mav uses BFG DOT slicks. over 100 runs on them with burnouts. just about done. no street time. street tears them up because they are soft & he has a mini spool (dont you have a spool, too, or is my memory bad). has the 26x8 inch size, but we will go to the 26x10 inch ones if i can get them to fit. they are only about 3 bucks a tire more. the 8" are borderline at 1.90 60' times with a 4.11, 3300 stall setup.

 

I guess I better stick with something more "street-able" just because I am too cheap to buy decent tires. I am thinking maybe Hoosier Quick-Time Drag DOT or just back to my BFG T/As. Probably the T/As, since I can burnout and tear them up, and not feel guilty each time, knowing that I paid half-price ($75) for the tires. I will never hook up right, though, until I buy a set of slicks. I will just have to live with that, I guess. Until I get to the point where I can buy new rims and slicks.

I just run for, and against, myself. I might start bracket racing, but currently, my local track is closed, and will open in the spring, if ever......... :confused:

My entire game consists of 1) buy a cheap car from a deceased great-grandmother 2) run it stock and record the numbers, 3) build it up one piece at a time and run it, watching the numbers 4) getting it to be a 10-second car (someday) after using it as a science-fair project for multiple buildups and re-builds.

And, most importantly, just having fun watching the numbers rise because of my hard work and ingenuity

 

I stand by the Mickey Thompson E/T Drag radials. I drive my car a lot. (I did anyway tearing it apart again) I put 5k on mine a fair amount of racing and I bet I will get at least another 10k to 15k of hard miles. I stuck eith the 235s for the height I have 3.40 gears.I would have went with the 275s if I had 3.80s or higher.

 

By me the popular street tire is the McCreary Roadstar. They are soft, have decent tread depth and come in a 265/60-15. The price isn`t to bad either, right around $100 a tire. Traction wise it was comparable to the Hoosier Quicktime and the M/T Pro Sportsmen. If you want serious traction go with the Proquick times or E/T streets, but you will probably get pulled over by the police cause they look like slicks at a glance. Where can I find McCreary? All I found on the 'net is aircraft tires, and a pdf stating that they weren't allowed in some race class along with Hoosier and Mickey Thompsons. And ATV tires.

 

I have the M/t Drag Radial 276/60 15, My car pulls 151 60 foot times on these tires. They have lasted all summer,5000 plus miles with 150 drag strip passes, with monster burnouts

 

Blown, those 275s fit without modifications? What backspacing? I assume 8" rims? How is the tread depth holding up after 5000 miles and burnouts?

Really, mileage is not that big of an issue, since I have had the car for 3 years and only put about 3000 miles on it. 60-ft times and handling burnouts is more important, while remaining a little streetable.

 

They will fit with the crager s/s with a 1/4 inch spacer. I had those wheels for awhile. now i have the pacer that looks like the crager but they have an extra 1/4 backspacing.I did run the tires without any other mods. But they would rub when i hit a bad pothole with someone in the car. I solved that with the Eastwood lip roller. I am going to replace the tires this winter, due to the fact that i like to keep new tires. They are worn, But like i said i do monster burnouts.

 

No problems with the spacer and cragar combo? I have heard that spacers are not safe and increase chance of breakage. What HP do you have, approx, and gears? Posi?

 

I have run the spacers but i was always nervous, even with the proper wheel studs. Thats the reason i got the pacer wheels.IT was ether the wheels or the steeda wheel spacers, (The wheels are cheaper) I have dynoed the car and it made 427 rear wheel horse power, But i have renewed my combo since so im not really sure now but its still close according to my MPH on the strip. I have a custom 9 inch with 350 gears, And a real detroit locker.

 

With that setup, I would be worried about using a spacer, but if you have run that many passes and burnouts with them, I would guess they would be safe on my "weenie-mobile". I am pretty sure I am still below, if not well below, 300 HP.

It is nice to know that there is an option for 275s if that is all I can find without going down to 235.
