I picked up a 74 2dr today. Needs work, but is very fixable. Green on Green 250 3 on the tree. Could someone decode this thing for me. It is confusing me. Here goes. VIN # 4x92l138428 Body-54a Color-3b Trim-jb Trans-W Axle-6 Dso-22 This info came from the sticker in the door jamb. I've decoded 3 other Mav's using the same web page, and they were right. This one is way off. Here's something funny...... the # on the dash is 4x91l138424. Sometime in Dec of 78 it was sold from a garage with this # as the Vin and was registered this way until 85 when it was parked. I wonder if this sticker was a mistake at the factory. "Oooops, I just stuck that on the wrong car......aaaahhhh, they will never know"
The X i believe stands for made in St. Thomas, Canada the 76 we bought off e-bay has vin #6x91f241252 the door sticker says made in Canada body62A color1G trimLAA trans.1 axle3 DSOB1 could'nt figure out the DSO the site only lists USA.
Hmmmmm.... ....I wondered just how long a man with a family that has a history of Maverick owners could go without one! Another Maverick assembled in St. Thomas, Canada, and delivered in Charlotte, too. [or was it]? Just think, there might still be a light blue '74 Maverick 4-Door driving around with a 2-door code sticker saying it's painted green! I guess the only real question is whether or not you have the 3.00:1 rearend like the 4-Door sticker says.
I really need to get a picture of the car on here. The wheels look similar to magnum 500's, but have buick center caps on two of them. 15" on the back and 14" on the front. Just couldn't pass up the price. I figured it was worth the $50.
Sale of the century! That's a good price. I wouldn't have passed it up either! [Just don't tell my wife]. All the Big Three had a Magnum look-a-like. Would a Buick rim have the right spacing?
They seem to fit well. Did the magnum's come in 15"? I was wondering if this thing had been converted to a gm bolt pattern. My brother in law bought a ford truck that had been converted and had pontiac wheels on it. The guy who owned this Mav liked to play.......there is still an early 70's mazda pickup sitting in that field with a 352 in it!
Is it possible that the Buick center cap will fit on both brands of wheels? (The center bore might be the same size)
I'll have to check tomorrow on the bolt pattern. I have one tire not holding air, but have another one of these wheels for a spare in the trunk.
That's a good price. I wouldn't have passed it up either! [Just don't tell my wife]. Doug, I don't think your wife would notice one more Maverick!
Or one day you'll come home & all your cars will be gone and your suitcase packed, sitting on the front porch.
