This may be a really dumb question.....but....

I was reading in the forum about a kit to change from powersteering to manual by taking the power valve off and using the ball assembly.

my question is why can't I just use an outer tie rod end with a sleeve??
would there be any reason this would not work? I mean if it's strong enough for the outside tie rod joint is should be fine for the pitman arm????

I would just have to find one that fits, right?

Physically if you found the components that fitted properly, it would work. However, I'm no engineer so I dont know what kind of stress difference there would be on a tie rod end that was designed to push one wheel as opposed to the whole steering system. The adapter the mustang shops sell is only around $120. NOt real cheap but not real expensive either. The 2 places I would not try to cut corners is steering and brakes. JMO
