Is anyone running 15X7 Magnums on their Maverick/Comet? If so, what size tires are you running? Do you have pics?

I have an old Mustang and Fords article scanned on my website of David Poteat's Maverick he did with a Boss 302. He ran 15x7 Magnum 500's with 225/60's all the way around. Obviously you can go a bit wider, especially in the back, but he was going for a certain look.

My Grabber has 15x7 rims in the front with 225-60-15 tires. In the rear I have 15x8 rims with 265-50-15 tires. The front and rear total height of the rims and tires are the same. The rears fill out the wheel wells nicely without rolling the wheel wells, and leaving about a half an inch between the tire and the spring.

15x7 in the front with 235/60r15. 15x8 in the rear with 255/60r15.

The rears rubbed on the leaf spring in cornering so I added a 3/8th spacer.

Well, I have purchased a complete set of 15X7's so I need to either go with the same size all the way around or just slightly bigger in the rear. This car will stay totally stock so I'm more after looks than performance. I'm leaning towards the 225's or 235's all the way around to keep it simple for tire rotations and so on. Then again, this is not going to be a daily driver so there will very seldom be a need for a rotation. Maybe 225's up front and 245's in the rear? Hmmm...decisions, decisions, decisions. :hmmm:

Max, this car will look very similar to yours except for the color. Do you have anything modified?
Thanks for the replies guys. :)

Well, Rayzor, mine was a variable venturi car, so I pretty much had to modify it to make it work. I got a set of older 302 heads with smaller chambers, ported out the thermactor bumps, installed a Holley 600 with a Weiend intake, and used a Comp Cams 256XE. Pretty mild and streetable. Also installed true dual exhaust.

The dang thing was so original, if it came with a standard 2 barrel carb, I may have left it alone. But Ford started with VV carbs in 77 in California, so I had to do something. It ran like crap when I bought it, and as anybody who has worked with the VV carbs knows, the sooner you can dump them the better.

    Nice ride Max Power. (y)

I have the 15x7's on my car with T/A Radials at 205/60's up front and 245/60's out back.

I still intend to get the 15-inch Magnums for my Maverick. I'm going to run 215/60R-15 up front and 235/60R-15 on the back. I'd like to go wider but I don't want anything taller than the 215s up front and the 235s in the rear. "Seventeens" would give me what I really want, but I don't have the budget for that, with all the other stuff that needs to be done...

The Boss Mav is one of the reasons I went for the Magnums. I did the 245's out back to fill the wheel well better. The 205's were to make sure the tires didn't rub and were not taller then the stock tires. I went on the BFG web site to compare tire size differences.
