The below is the latest update from FSPP on their new aluminum head for the I6's. With all the 200 and 250 I6's in mav/comets running around out there I'm surprised this is does not get more interest here. I can't wait. Looks like the 250 in the Comet will get one of these, 300-350 hp to surprise people with, how fun. From FSPP: I talked with the design engineer again today. It's finally done. Now for the good stuff, or at least some of it. We were shooting for 65% on the exhaust flow. He hit 73%. The design will work extremmly well N/A or with boost, and is prefectly suited to a roots style blower. With the high velocity ports, fast burn chambers, 192/144cfm @500, excellent quench, 11.5 CR capability (n/a), and 100% fuel distribution, this thing is going to be Awesome. We should be able to start the pattern work late next week and are shooting for an early spring release date. Once the first proto type is produced and we verify the flow numbers, I'll release more info on the exact numbers. All I can say, is if you install one of these, you'll need to invest in a set of street drag radials, not to mention an upgraded exhaust system (2.25" dual outs - mimimum, 2.5" is recomended). Bottom end torque will come on fast and strong and will keep on going thru mid range into the upper RPMs. He NAILED the design and exceeded our original specs. I couldn't be more please with the results. I can't wait to dyno the fisrt head, which will be videographed and put on a C/D. With all the other parts we are working on here at SEMA, I think 400HP is very doable and 600+HP (with massive amounts of torque) may not be out of the question, with the right components. We still need to get the 4V intake designed, but he is starting on it next week. But the intake is easy and fast to produce, in comparison. _________________ Looking for Performance Parts, see Ford Six Performance Parts
Cool. But like the 302 V8, the block is limited to how much hp it can repeatedly withstand (500~600). How much do 'they' say the 6 cyl block can withstand?
I dunno Don't think I've ever seen that number posted by "them". Not sure anyone has been hitting high enough levels to break the blocks. Quite a few with turbos though. Maybe this head will finally get some motors in to the danger range. Here's another blurb from FordSix. The 200/250 engine has a bulletproof 7-main bottom end that has ample strength to support fairly high levels of power and rpm. The stock oiling system is not bad at all. And the inline six is one of a few naturally balanced engine configurations (I-6, 60-degree V-12, horizontally opposed six) so they tend to be very smooth. Could that be one of the reasons you find these configurations on upscale cars like Porsche, Jaguar, Mercedes, Lexus, and BMW?
Yes, I have been watching all this over on Ford Six for a while now. At this rate, my car may never get a 302, as the power output of these little straight 6's are going to be awesome in comeing years with all these new parts comeing out. A lighter engine that can make an equal amount of power of a modified 302 for only a slight bit more cost. I'm all over that. I don't think anyone has ever pushed one of these engines far enough to break a block yet. I know the 300 C.I. truck blocks can withstand over 600 horse easily and make gobs of torque. It will be intresting to see what happens when they get the 250 block up over 500 horse.
i think terry has a 250 in his orange car thats in the 30-35 hp range ...frank... sorry...i see the post is 300-350 hp...NOT!!!
I don't think they have put out any figures as far as prices go. The other guys, southern cross performance or something like that are also working on a head that I don't think will be half as good as the one from FSPP and they said theirs will be around $1500. FSPP said they are going to try to make theirs cheaper then the other guys, and it's a better head from what I have read.
some extras That $1500 price includes an intake and exhaust I believe, the Argie head needs it's own. Don't remember what FSPP is saying about one with valves in it, was more like $1000 I believe. Maybe less? I'll have to go back and look now. But you only need one. FSPP is paying attention to making theirs work with existing stuff.
Here's the quote From FSPP: I don't have a firm price yet. I should have a better idea in a few more weeks. No less than $1000, no more than $1600, for a complete head and choice of intake. As Mr Keck noted. Sounds reasonable to me for a hot-**** aluminum head. Remember it's a 6 cylinder head, not 4.
