I run 4 7/8" bs on mine with small spacer. The rim is 8.8 with 275-60 DR on them. I did roll the inner lip and no rubbing. I also disagree (IMO) with the spacer comments made above. I feel the fewer points of connection the better. As long as the studs are adequately long enough I would rather have a stright through spacer than another potential point of breaking with the double bolt set-up. Again, just my :2cents:

I agree with that. Besides most of the spacers are made of aluminum.

My 75 can take 4.5" BS without the slapper bars installed.
I think that the larger tires like the 275/60 look a lot better when tucked into the fenderwell.
The 'stinkbug' look is long gone and any BS under 4" would give that look IMO.
I would also not run any rim larger than 7" wide... Maybe 7.5" wide if it was a vintage rim.
8" rims just pull the outside of the tire outwards and put an extra inch of width to the outside of the car.
15x7 on 4.25" BS with 275/60s would look good IMO. Maybe 4" BS if you didn't want to risk needing a spacer. 255/60s would look better though. The 275/60 is only slightly wider, but a whole inch taller. Kinda overwhelming for the back of such a small car, when viewed from the side. (I tried a set this past summer)

Edit: Do a search. When I was trying my 275s on, for giggles, I posted here asking who had that size. I got several pics from that thread.
One member had an orange car with Cragers and 275s. He had the best fit, by that I mean they tucked under the car. His Cragers were 15x7or8, don't remember, but he used 4.25" BS. All the other pics were less BS and the tires looked like they were on the verge of sticking out too far... like roller skates.

A 7" rim is too narrow for a 275 in my opinion. Everything I've read says you should have a rim width equal to the tread width. Supposedly a narrower rim will change the tires handling characteristics. Exactly how, I cant say but I know from experience that you have to run much lower pressure than recommended to keep from wearing out the center of the tire.

DO NOT RUN ANY TIRE BIGGER THAN 215 ON A 7"RIM. I HAD 225'S ON MINE W/ A 7"RIM AND UNDER HARD CORNERING THE TIRE WAS ROLLING OFF THE RIM. I CURRENTLY HAVE A AMERICAN RACING OUTLAW 8"RIM AND AM RUNNING 275X60X15 COOPER COBRAS. THE BACKSPACING IS 4" AND YOU WILL HAVE TO ROLL THE FENDER LIP (EASY TO DO). ON OCCATION WITH EXTREME BUMPS AND A FULL CAR THE TIRE WILL HIT BUT IF YOU ARE CAREFUL THERE SHOULD BE NO PROBLEM. IF YOU GO TO MY SITE I HAVE ALOT OF PICS OF THE CAR BOTH BEFORE THE SWITCH AND AFTER. THE LATEST PICS ARE THE ONES BY THE LAKE. MY SITE IS HTTP://GROUPS.MSN.COM/71MAV/SHOEBOX.MSNW

That was me. Here are a couple of shots of that set up 15x8, 4 1/4BS:

And here's the same car with a 275/50r15 BFG drag radial on a 15x8 wheel with 3 3/4 BS:

I've also had a 275/60r15 BFG drag radial on this wheel and it tucked in a bit better. I went to the 50 for a shorter tire and a bit more footprint.

I tried this combination on my '72 Comet and it looked like there would be no issues. The rims were Cragar Streetlite 15x8 with 4 1/8 bs and the tires Firehawk 275/60-15. (the ones with the cool Indy logo on the sidewall). I intend to roll the fender lip when I use this set-up. The taller tire will kill a bit of the impact of the 3.80 gear.

My wheels are 15x7 with a 225/65/15 with a 4 inch BS. Rear is 15x8 with a 275/60/15 with a 4 inch BS. I can't see anything else fitting with a BS either other way.......Hopefully I'm wrong! Good Luck!! Preston

With all that displacement you might appreciate the taller 60 series tire, but there are a million variables to think about as I'm sure you're aware.

Well Jamie, the GM factory used them on late 3rd-generation Trans Am GTAs and Camaros on those 16-inch wheels (actually used them on the front). I have never heard of one breaking. They are stronger than using longer studs, which are naturally exposed to more stress, because instead of the hub bearing most of the load, the studs are...

My dad knew a guy that had them on a Nova and one of them broke.

That Comet made plenty of power and it never had a problem with the studs breaking. http://5hp.hill.cc/hotrod/page5/28.jpg I vividly remember haveing to put at least 3 spacers on it to get the new rear wheels to fit when we swapped the wheels in '97. I remember it took forever to get them just right, but I think we ended up with a little under a inch worth of spacers on either side. We ran the heck out of that car like that. Never broke. I'm sure it's still running around somewhere like that.

If you guys want to run them, then have at it. But my dad has been right about enough other things on this car that I'm going to stay away from them.

I'm running the 275's on my car also and they do fit inside the wells but barely. I do have the lip rolled in and very seldom hear any rubbing when taking some turns. I'm not certain of my backspacing. The 9" rear and wheels were on this car when I bought it and I've never measured the wheels to see what they were. I've actually had several people ask me if I had mini tubs. :)
