In 74 they went to a V6 where as all previous years they were straight 6s. Any trans from the straight 6 will work but I dont know about the v6s. Maybe some body else can shed some light there.

My brother bought a 74 Mustang new and it definately had a V6. I thought they were all v6s after that.

As far as the T5, $75 is a good price. You can buy a rebuild kit for around $250 so you will have a decent trans at a good price. If you already have manual in your car, the easiest way to add the T5 is to get an adapter plate from any mustang supply house. The trans will then bolt right in. You will have to fab up a rear mount because it is further back. Lastly, you will have to have your drive shaft shortened. If you an auto & going to manual, get a T5 bellhousing and convert to cable for your clutch. I believe Lonnie wrote a pretty good article on how to do that. Search for it, its here somewhere.
