whats the whole point going that big on back spacing? is it so the tires dont go out past the fender? and what is the widest tire i should put on a 15X8? and what sort of Back spacing should i use for that rim in the back?
Those are the cheap spacers. The good ones bolt to the original studs and have their own studs for the wheel. Personally, I wouldn't use the cheap ones...
yea i know but i needed the tiers on the car so i did what i had to. it works for know, i wont to put a diferent rear in it maybe an inch or two wider.
My dad had those "cheap" spacers on his Comet for over 17 years. He told me to never use the ones with the studs made in. He said they can and will break. I guess they would be ok for an occasional weekend driver that you don't drive hard...
I tried 8" rim with 4 1/2" backspacing on my 77 and the tires just touched the leaf spring. So I had my 9" extended 3/8" on each side for the Sprint. It seems it really depends on how straight your tire side walls are. I doubt a 275/60/15 will fit without rolling the fender lip and even then I doubt they will. It also depends on how high the back is. If they do fit, they will probably rub on anything but a straight road. I'm running 255/60/15. They fit great but there are marks on my wheel wells where they have ocasionally rubbed.
hope 4 1/4bs will work they are on order now take 3weeks before i get them heres THE NEW TIRE SPEC Tire Compound:R2Tire Overall Diameter:28.0'' Average Roll Out/ Circumference:87'' Tire Tread Width:8.9'' Tire Section Width:11.1' 'Wheel Diameter:15'' Spec Wheel Width:8'' Tire Weight:32.0 lbs Size Equivalent:28'' x 11.50'' - 15'' heres the tire spec of whats on the car now Tire Compound:M5Tire Overall Diameter:26.1'' Average Roll Out/ Circumference:82'' Tire Tread Width:8.3'' Tire Section Width:10.5'' Wheel Diameter:15'' Spec Wheel Width:8'' Tire Weight:20.0 lbs
If you can change that order, I'd go with a 3 3/4 BS. nicer fit without worrying about rubbing on the inside. You may want to roll in the lip on the inside of the wheelwell though.
