Hello I am a brand new member I got a deal on a 1970 Ford Mavrick 6 Cyl. Nope not sure size. if I purchase it.I want to Know where I can locate a fuel tank does someone re make these like they do for Chevys. I am a Chevrolet and Mopar guy so if I purchase this car I need to know how hard a conversion to switch over to 5 lug & put front Disc Brakes up front has drums Also maybe other Fords I can say get parts to swap over. I will also be changing the engine. How much HP will the stock rear end take. I would love to drop a blown hemi on NITRO in it. Hey I am a drag racing photographer that being said I am going to be building this car on a budget. so the first motor will be coming from pick your part. The price is right. I spend most weekends at a drag strip. I am the Track Photographer at California Dragway and then I also take photos at NHRA National events at Pomona LVMS, Infineon, Good Guys Bakersfield Famoso, Firebird International Raceway and then on those other weekends you can also find me at an IHBA drag boat racing, plus if it goes fast turns fast I like those too. Plus there is always a local car cruise show etc. Thanks James www.JamesDrewPhotography.com
Will you be at the PSCA race this weekend at Fontana? I'll be there. Not racing this time, but I'll be racing mostly Fontana with my red 72 Maverick. The disc brakes are easy swap. The gas tank for a 70 could be hard to find, but you can put a fuel cell in it. The stock rear end can handle a decent amount of HP. Do a search, there's a lot of discussion about both topics. Lot's of good info on here. Hope you get a Maverick...they are the best. Just checked out your website...Awesome photos!
Welcome aboard! You found the right place for a flegeling Mav owner to be. All the help and advice you can ask for is right here from about the best bunch of guys and gals around. Hope you are planning to join MCCI also. Check the website for an application. www.maverickcometclub.org To answer a couple of your questions... 1) Unfortunately, nobody repops early gas tanks. The Mavs throughout the production run used several different tanks so using a latter one may not always work. You'll either need to find a decent used one of retrofit something like a Mustang tank. You may want to check with Mavaholic or a few others here on that topic as they have actual experience with this project. 2) The conversion to front 5 lug disc is a no brainer. The latter Mav spindles fit right up and the early Granada/Monarch are an exact fit also. There are several on here that have done it and can help you there also. Just check our forums for info and parts you need. Never be afraid to ask what you don't know or for what you don't have. We pretty much feel that the only dumb question is the one that doesn't get asked.
james, welcome to the board. if you find that blown hemi at the local pic a part let me know. i had wanted to come to fontana for the ffw, then it got cancelled. but it was also too close to the div. 7 et finals at speedworld. saw dave and kathy danish there. great people. i run at firebird and sir in tucson in the summit series. there's getting to be quite a few mavericks at the strips. i run a blue 71 grabber in the sportsman class. if you get over to one of the summit races at firebird stop and say hello.
Welcome okibono had a 70 tank for sale in California a few weeks back. You may want to see if he still has it. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=17977 As far as a 5 lug swap you will want to upgrade the rear to an 8" from a donor Maverick/Comet. Same for the front disc brakes. Spend some time searching around the forum and you will find a lot of useful information for your project. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
