im getting ready to take the i6 out of the mav and was wondering about the trans,,,my mav is a 69.5 and has a semi auto trans in it,,,it needs to be rebuilt, what i wanting to know is ,is that trans going to bolt up to a 302,that were building up to a 347 stroker, and if so,will it take the torque, and would it be a practicle trans for the car,,,i plan on getting on the car a lil bit every once in a while,,,but its not going to be a serious drag car:confused:
ths c4 tranny, if rebuilt with quality parts, can hold up to the 347 stroker. if you are going that route, it is highly recommended that you use a quiality tranny builder so that the tranny will last. i am pretty sure that the c-4 should mount up just fine to the new 302
what are the differences betweem a semi auto and an auto,,,the steering colomn even says semi automatic and goes 1 2 hi,instead of 1 2 d
I know that the bell housings are different on a 200 and a 250, But I am not sure which one if either of them will bolt to a 302. I do know that the tranny will be fine but you might want to check on the bell housings. Dean
As far as I know a Semi-Auto does not shift automatically ... you have to manually shift through the gears ... but there is no clutch so it is called a Semi-Auto ... a C4S ...
Being a '70, it probably has either a 170 or 200. You will have to change the bell housing to make it fit. I have a couple of extra bell housings that will fit the 302, but going to your local junk yard would probably be cheaper then the shipping.
The 250 was available in the 70 Maverick, which is the only 6 cyl that shares the same bell housing as the 302. However, the semi automatic was only available behind the 170.
the 70 up c-4 has a 26 spline need to check yours if its a 24 spline junk it and find a 26 out of a v 8 car it will have the good drums for a v8 4-5 clutch drum set up in it. All the c5 pan fill have the good drums that will work in the c4 have seen a 5-5 clutch drums in the c5 the trans has a built on yoke on the rear but they are hard to find
