I found a set of small bumpers on a 70 maverick today. They are nice and straight but will have to be rechromed. The owner wants $100 each for them and that includes all brackets, nuts, bolts, whatever.

Is this a good deal? And how much does rechroming run?

    Thanks in advance.

From what I've found, it costs anywhere from $150 to $250 to have them rechromed. Usually core charges aint too bad. Small bumpers are getting harder to find. Whether they are worth $100 each? Not in my opinion but then, I dont need them. Sometimes if you really need or want something, then you pass up a deal cause you think its too high, you end up regretting it. Maybe you could get both for $150.

The core charge is pretty high for most swaps, I think $150-250 per bumper, last time I looked.

I bought mine, with all valences, brackets, and grabber spoiler, for $100, but had to take the rusty things off myself, under a car with a couple of water mocassins. The guy wanted to sell the entire car for that price, but I was afraid that if I left his house with it on a trailer, only the front half of the frame would have still been on the trailer after we got it home...it was that much of a rust-bucket.

My thoughts...buy the conversion parts, use the bumpers for a while, and use them for core exchange later.

Just check on the core price, it might be worth the $200 he is asking.

dan i looked in the autocrafters catolog and the price for the small bumpers are 295 apiece with a 150 core fee each so if im correct that would make them 145 each,,i think,,,but either way the number is 1 800 228 7346

I think they want $295 to exchange for rechromes - PLUS $150 if you have no cores to send. Last cores I bought were $50 each, but as stated earlier, they are getting harder to find.

This place will take them off for you but they will not do any shipping. Still want them?

On a side note..... any way to move the front bumper back? That plastic piece between the bumper and the grill is rotted and I figured it would be easier to ditch it and move the bumper back against the grill than to find a better one.
