well i have a few questions on horse power. 1.how much HP on average does a stock 1976 4 door mav with a 200 engine put out? 2.how do you guys measure hp? 3.how much would i need to take mine to the track and still keep it a daily driver(if i were to use a 331 stroker as some have sugested)? -thanx guys-james
answer IMHO: 1: Around 85-90 2: horespower is measured on a Dyno, or just a wild guess 3: 600 seriously, it all depends on how YOU want to build it. If you want a smooth-idle engine that will still make some decent power, go with the 331 or 347, small cam good compression, etc. But, if you want a real screamer, a hot 302 or 331 (I personally do not really like 347's due to their less-than-desireable rod-stroke ratio), even a 351w stroker would fit the bill nicely.
More HP One thing about the wild guess method if you add stickers to your car it makes it more believable and they add more hp as well! j/k
a 76 200 makes 81 hp and 151 ft lbs with a man tranny and makes 78 hp and 152 ft lbs with a atto tranny a 76 250 makes 81 hp and 192 ft lbs with a atto and 90 hp and 190 ft lbs with a man tranny 400 hp is good street strip hp I wish u would keep you`r six but good luck
lol i bet alot of people are wondering why i want to beef up a 4 door. but im odd that way. i like to be different. i cant remeber the guys name..but he drag raced a 4 door before there were any wheight rules against it i believe...(am i right on that one?)
fast four door I remember the days when I wanted to build up my four door. Ah good old days. But then i saw Russ' car and got inspired to get a two door. Have fun with the four door. If you really want to be original build up your 250 all crazy like. Now that would be cool!
the 4 door cars are neat sleepers. A guy at the local drag strip runs a '63 Ford Falcon 4 door, 302 13:1 compression, etc etc. Runs 7.10's in the 1/8 mile, but looks totally stock.
