I just thought of this...My "new" used GT40P heads came without any valve lash caps. My stock heads had them on the exhaust only, or maybe intake only, either way, every other valve.

Do I need them on the P heads?

If the ones on the stock heads fit, can I use them?

Lash caps are used on valve stems to provide a larger surface for the rocker arm to connect with and/or to slightly lengthen the valve stem.

If your stems are even across the head (lay a straight edge on them ) you don't need lash caps. If you lay a straight edge across the old heads you should see all the valve stems lined up with the caps on.

They are even. And, there is light wear (scuffing) where all the rockers have worked on the tops of the valves, just a light line scratched onto the surface. So apparently, they had no caps on the stock engine.

Rick, great website. I would love to get 25 extra horses. And, since my last trip to the track, I will have also removed the fan and put in an electric, swapped out the Performer 289 for a Torker 289, and put on headers.

    Maybe worth 70 HP total (25 heads, 20 fan, 25 headers, I don't know?)?
