I have the oppurtunity to buy a 71 grabber. The body is rough but intact, the interior needs redone but the motor is freshly rebuilt and runs well. The price is $3000. Is this a decent price? The car does have the grabber hood with scoops if that makes a difference, also the motor is a 302 V8, automatic. Thanks for you help guys...Peace

That's pretty high. I'd offer the guy $1500 and he can take it or leave it...

How rough is rough? Is there lots of rust? Check the floor pans, trunk floor, and most importantly the cowl vents. IF there is not rust, and the engine and driveline are okay, go with what you think is fair. $3000 sounds too high even if there is no rust, and if the body and interior are in bad shape, like you said, I would go around $1500 as well. If there are massive amounts of rust, especially in the cowl area, $1500 is almost too much because you will spend A LOT of money fixing it, especially the cowl. To check the cowl, you can either look up under the dash, which will sometimes allow you to see, or best of all, pour water into the cowl and see if it leaks onto the floor of the car. Taking this into consideration helps, but it all depends on how much time, effort, and money you are willing to spend on this car. Good luck.

definatly check the floors, trunk, and cowl's, rust and holes in the floor are a good sign that there is a leak in the cowl vents or windshield gasket, my car was pretty rust free with just a few holes in the floor, i thought it was an easy fix till i was cleaning out the cowl area, then i found this!!! its a big job, very labor intensive, and im not even half way through it

The cowl area is the area behind the hood where the wipers & vents are .

checking the cowls is a must. ask him to let you put some water in the grille at the bottom of the windshield. if he want let you then thank him and walk. if the cowls leak i would walk anyway. i have been there and done that. you would not like the time or expense to do them. rough means $500 or less to me. if you really want a mav. one has your name on it. time is on your side. get a sound body and the rest will come. post us a couple of pics. if you can. good luck...frank...

I'll try and snap a couple shots tomm, that would give you guys a better Idea. My dad also told me the engine has some performance mods like an edlebrock 4 barrel and holley duel inlet or something like that. I am a 4 cylinder junkie so that stuff is foriegn to me, but I am going to stop by and try and talk to the guy again tomm. Thanks for the help so far....

i spent 300 even on my mav. rough body but only one 5 inch by 7 inch spot of rust where anti freeze leaked in trunk.. anyways, it was soooo de tuned it was sick.. but after a carb rebuild some fiddling with timing and what not it ran great.. but 800 extra bucks still not on the road. re did brakes and tranny blew out.. re built the suspension and all and now i gotta put my new tranny in.. but i think it was worth it.. not like 300 would buy something better.. but 3k for a "rough" car is totally uncool..
