May have the wrong name on the title. While at the track this weekend I noticed that the 2 Mavericks running in the 11's had a strap from the frame to the motor on the drivers side. I know what it is for my question is, are any of you running it and is it a benefit? I can see my aircleaner move a bit when I get on it.. Just Curious, Scott
I have a chain that I have hidden under. It goes through the motor mount bracket on the engine right where it bolts to the engine and then to the frame. It is not tight enough to stop all twist movement but it will stop the engine from rolling in the bay if that driver side mount lets loose. I have heard some say that if you have it tight enough to help limit all movement that it will stiffen your drivetrain giving you a better and more consistant launch when racing. It helps to transfer the energy to the wheels instead of wasting some of it flexing the motor mounts.
I agree, only helpful in finite racing or if you have a 351W wedged in there and don't want to scratch your shock towers. Thanks, Seth
I know of a couple people that use a turn-buckle. It just allows more of the "energy" to go through the drive train and not be wasted on twisting. I am sure its good for a little bit of gains, but I can only imagine that it is minimal gains (but I do not know that for sure).
i use one on mine ever since i went down the return road to warm up and hit the gas with no hood on and the air filter came up about 4 inches. went back to the pits and put a turn buckle on, from the head to the hole where the front sway bar was. i ran the race then changed the motor mount. i've had it on there for insurance ever since. also stiffens everything up a bit when you launch.
I run one in the same spot as Don. Allows me to use stock motor mounts without worrying about breaking them and I'm sure it must help the launch at least a bit. the energy that used to rock the motor over must be going somewhere right? Anyway, it certainly won't hurt and it's pretty cheap motor mount insurance if nothing else.
Kool, I need to try that. I might gain an extra 1.5 hp to the rear wheels. Then, I might beat that one 94 mustang that keeps beating me!!!
The stock motor mounts are marginal at best,I ran a chain from the drivers side head down to the framerail, when I had a 3spd,dumping the clutch on a 16 sec stocker will rip a rubber mount apart after a few passes. Most guys do it to save from breaking a mount more than anything.I guess if you had a bunch of power you could bend the frame if you didn't have a cage or frame ties,I've never had enough power to worry about that though.
Remember this thread? I just broke my drivers side motor mount. (was new 600 miles ago!) I think this strap might have alleviated some of the torque twist on the mount. I like the turnbuckle idea and will install one with the new mounts this next weekemd. (along with the cal-tracks arriving tommrw )
i have always ran the "anchor" motor mounts. Never had a problem. They have a pin that goes through the middle that keeps the mount in one piece. I run 12s. In fact the mounts have out lasted 1 block
I was thinking about getting this: http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?Ntt=cee-4010&x=0&y=0&searchinresults=false&Ntk=KeywordSearch&DDS=1&N=115&target=egnsearch.asp Do you think it will fit? It looks like it would.
