i was wondering if it was possible to put tilt steering in my 71 maverick? it is a pain in the ass to slide under the wheel everytime i get in. i fighured on needing a new colomn but don't know where to look.
I used a 85 mustang unit for one I did, it took very little modification to get it to work, and basically bolted right in afterward. the wiring is the worst part of the swap in this case. tom used a 77 t-bird unit to do his(modified as well) mavmark used a ??? t-bird unit I think as well, but not sure what year.
Radmav, what modifications exactly did you have to make? Did it bolt up to the dash ok? What about at the rag joint? Me and one of my buddys are going to the Pull A Part today to try and find a bumper for his Toyota. I know of at least 3 80-85 Mustangs in that yard. I could get the colum from one for under 30 bucks.
it bolted up perfectly, factory bolts, no adjusting there. rag joint, same thing,... all I had to do was shorten the shaft. like I mentioned, the wiring was a bear to figure out, but you dont have to use everything on it unless you want. mine had the interval wiper switch on the column as well.
i don't need anything but the steering wheel since everything is on the dash. including the horn, but i don't know if that was wear it went all it is is a lil shiny botton.
