I've seen a few cars with cowl mounted gauges and was wondering
what brand to get, how you attached them to the cowl and weather
proofing them? I'm still not sure if I want to put the gauges inside
on the tray of the '71 or out on the cowl.

    Thanks, Don

i'm not sure any of them are waterproof. most of the cars i've seen them mounted outside are racecars or fairweather car, not everyday drivers.:)

I had a fuel pressure gauge mounted outside the car. Not sure if it was waterproof, but it did get wet a few times and still worked fine. It was an autometer phantom mechanical gauge.

I had a couple of gauges mounted on the cowl once I just used a big beefy rubber o ring between the cover and the gauge, never leaked once....

i used radiator clamps.. thing is it scratches the paint.. so i used a peice of rubber between the cowl and the clamp. the guages are not water proof! the guys from autometer said it wouldn't be a good idea to put them outside. i really don't drive my car in the rain however when PHR shot my car it was in the rain! pooring rain i might add! i was really worried about it! i even put plastic baggys over them but they blew off as soon as i was going 60mph. after the big rain one of the did start acting a bit weird! if you drive your car every day i woundn't put them outside.

    I've had a few
My dad had his gas gauge on the Cowl on his Comet. Not sure what brand it was or anything but we got stuck in the rain several times in that car over the years and it never seemed to hurt the gauge. I think he had some O rings and some RTV sealant here and there on the inside of it to help seal it up.
