Hi all, don't know how many of you will remember me but I am Coop's brother, Paul. I had an accident in my 73 maverick on june 18th. I was rear-ended at a stop ligt and the lady who ran into me had no insurance. I have pip and underinsured motorist coverage so I thought I was protected. They are trying to total my car - it is computed to be 1800 dollars damage (I can repar it for less but they want to pay $800 and be done with it. I need to find a v-8 maverick 72 - 74 in good shape to buy. If I can find one they have to pay the price for it. I only have 30 days so help if you can. PaulS
If it was in decent shape, buy it back after they totall it. Parts for these cars ain't gettin' any easyer to find and they will probably just crush it.
Yes, I plan to buy it back - they are only asking $50 for salvage price and I have 7 times that in a new three row radiator. I can end up with two Mavericks for the price of doing the repairs on the accident victim myself after they buy me a new one. I am not too picky - a little rust is ok, but it has to be a v-8 auto Maverick or Comet. PaulS
I dont know how much your wanting to spend, but i found some on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ford-maverick-grabber-302_W0QQitemZ4571227341QQcategoryZ6057QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I suppose I should have said that I'm in Washington - the Seattle area. Can't travel to California to get the car. The insurance company won't pay to ship it so I would like it to be a local car. I think I can get them to pay up to 2000 if I can show the similarity in condition.... It would be worth a try. PaulS
Unfortunately, you found out first hand, Paul, why old cars can be a problem if they are insured through the same company that insures your family SUV. They will not differentiate between a collectable car and someone's Intrepid. The Catch 22 is that you cannot get collector car insurance if you are using the Mav as a daily driver. With the insurance I have through Hagerty on the Mavs, you have an agreed value if the car is considered totaled and that's what you get, of course minus the deductable if there is any, and it cannot be contested because it is agreed to at the time of the policy bcoming active. For example, if the PoliceMav is wrecked and they want to total it, I get $4900 as I have it valued at $5000 and have a $100 deductable on collision. I could insure it for a lot more if I want, but it increases the premium and I'm not greedy anyway. The car is insured at this value for more than I have in it. Not bad for a yearly premium of $159 for BOTH Mavs combined. The Stallion's insured for more. Even if the car's used for just pleasure driving and not commuting, it will still qualify for the collector car insurance. You just have to be able to prove that you have another car for daily driving and it is insured. Watch out which company you go with if you ever decide to go this route. Many have mileage restrictions on how many miles you can put on the car per year. Hagerty is rated as the best, includes roadside assistance for no extra charge, and has been around for a very long time insuring classics, and has no restriction. I know this info is be too late for your situation, and you may already know about this already, but maybe it'll help for the future.
