One of my mothers friends has a 86 or 87 F150 with the 5.0/AOD . The engin runs and idles great but when he puts it in gear the engine stalls. He thinks the converor is locked up so he looked around and foud a bunch of wires going to the tranny. He unhooked them but the truck won`t run without them hooked up . He needs to know wich wires to clip so that the torque convertor unlocks.

Thanks for any and all help [IMG] .

If it's an AOD and not an AODE then the torque convertor locks up mechanically. There is no on off switch on the dash or gear shift for an AOD.
If it's the later AODE or other elcetronically controlled tranny and no one here can help the try the www.tccoa.com site. It's for T-birds and cougers but there is a couple guys on there that actually helped design the later trannies and are very sharp on them

Elliot on that year truck as stated it is not electric lockup it goes into lockup in 3rd and 4th via a shaft so that is not his problem by the way on the aod the only wires going to it are either for the cruise control via the speed sensor or to the mlps (neutral saftey switch) with it unhooked it will not start\crank. tell him to keep looking.

elliot, the truck is electronic fuel injection.
No electric lock up until later in the 90s when a different trans was used..
The throttle body (TB) and the idle air controller (IAC) need cleaning due to the age of the truck.
This should go a long ways in solving the stalling issue
