Hey yall, wanted to run some of my mods that I am planning and wanted to see if it will be a good or cause more problems down the road. Okay here goes. It is a 73 4dr 302 2bl auto. I am planning on putting on power discs brakes, new shocks, and bushings.

The engines mod I am planning are deep breath....
New heads, cam/lifters, manifold, 4bl carb, long tube headers into either dumps or regular exhaust exit location, one thing I was looking at is the edelbrock RPM performer package, but having trouble with the exhaust? ie what headers and back exhaust will bolt up, what are you guys running. I don't have to worry about emissions, (In st. Louis) I am going to be using this as showcar/drag racer. Thanks for all the help and sorry for the long post.

what do you want the car to do? are you going to do anything to the bottom end? will this be an 1/8 or 1/4 mile car? will it be a p/trac. rear end and what rear gear are you going to run? this info helps put the " top " together.

power brakes will be a job in itself. :yup: good luck with the car and have fun :bananaman

Edelbrock swears that the 1601, or any header that will fit the stock 302, will bolt up. Also, sidepipes will bolt up just fine, for exhaust (y)

i'd watch what any of the manufacturers say. they are trying to sell, bottom line. try a search for headers on here. i think most of us are using hooker 6901's.
i had a muffler shop bend some pipe and install the flowmaster mufflers on mine. then i went to the dynomax bullet mufflers. noisy but it's a drag only car.:)

What area of St. Louis are you in?
The Hooker 6901's are a good fit. You won't find exhaust that will just bolt up for use with headers. It will need to be bent or fabricated for the car.

Maverick1970 I am in so. county. My plans are for it to be street/strip 1/4 with a little show for fun? Really don't plan on doing to much for the rear end maybe some new gears 3:77's?? want to keep the whole sleeper thing minus the loud exhaust. On the 6901's that everybody is running if I install those could I have say midas or someplace like that cut and bend pipe to hook up to mufflers and dumps? Thanks for all your help.

Midas should be able to do it for you. They probably won't do dumps as the exhaust needs to exit from under the car. (Law)

He is saying most states require the tail pipes to exit either in frt of the rear wheels or behind the rear wheels and be easily accessable for emissions testing. Some states will not allow side exit exhaust so check local laws. If your car is exempt it probabally will not matter. Shop around and find somebody willing to bend the rules. Get buddy, buddy with them and they will most likely do what ever you want but write up the reciept showing another service so as not to be accountable for any exhaust/emissions tampering. I did this for alot of hotrodders. Just wrote up Misc repair on thier reciept and everybody was happy.

Since my car is emissions exampt here I can do what I want. What I really want to do is have a pipe run from the headers into what I know is an X-Pipe then straight dumps, but yet have what looks like rear exit exhaust, I will hang some pipes to look like rear exit/stock exhaust. Gotta find someone to do that. Also yall say Hooker 6901's and I know companys want to sell, sell, sell, sell, but is anybody else running the dynomax, flowtech, or hedmans? Any one last dumb question is this a true dual exhaust dumped into a singe (haven't got underneath her yet). Thanks yall
