You Want How Much for BOXED Lower Control Arms?

    I like all the panty talk, but as far as the boxed lower control arms go, I have them in my car, I did buy them from Global West, if they make a difference- I really don't know, I didn't "drive" my car without them, but the biggest difference I know of is at the frame side of the lower arm they put in a spherical bearing, which is supposed to "allow the suspension to move in it's intended path, without bind or deflection" basically letting it move where it wants to go without the bushing interfering. The idea behind boxing them in is to eliminate any kind of uneccessary movement(twist or bend in the bar) that may affect suspension performance. I also have the tubular uppers in my car, they call it the negative roll system. They change the length of the upper control arm and ball joint angle, and change the location of it to get more use of the tire. The stock suspension pushes the top of the tire out, thus lifting the inside edge of the bottom of the tire reducing the "contact patch" of the tire, with the Negative Roll stuff the tire will be flat on the pavement during cornering, resulting in better handling and more control.

    All this is uneccessary if you only drive it on the street with an occasional 1320 foot blast at the dragstrip. But I like the way my car handles, and for what I do with my car, I think was worth it.

    Just my thoughts on it.

    Two 1973 LDO Mavericks (one 4 Drag one 4 driving like Mad on the roads :) ) also have a 75 6cyl Stock! Ok, well sort of Stock :P

    you guys should know me already i drive my cars hard! i can't stand a car that can't corner! in fact i just ordered some coil overs from japan for my station wagon! :coco: :p then again my white car with 15x3 and no sway bars can't corner worth a jack!


    nah no need if your going streight! but yeah see what i mean about the rivets.. next time check one out at napa or kragen.

    Mr. Ford well if you gave me a set of those coil overs i wouldn't have had to do this and could have kept my used panties.... huh huh now would i! :rolleyes:

    As for the panties thing...You're in LA where Dr.Phil lives, right?

    Geeze Gunslinger why'd ya have to go and drag me out of the gutter?! Just like somebody to get us back on track...

    Spherical bushings are great for a precise suspension, keep in mind that you should, in order to get the full gain form them, tie the chassis up tight with subframe connectors, monte carlo bars and shocktower braces as well as a mild cage.

    For the street these types of bushings transfer a lot more road noise and are harder on the chassis. For racing, or if you are a person who doesn't mind a harsh ride on the street, I'd say spherical bushings are good. I've told folks about that where our own strut rod adjuster kit, which uses a spherical bearing, is concerned.

    Having said all that...Something to consider for the street crowd. The rubber that was put into these cars originally (for areas like spring eye bushings, lower control arm mounting points and such) were put there for several reasons: one to improve road noise and eleminate harshness another was to protect the chassis and suspension components from exadurated wear. When you put a bearing where a bushing should go you eleminate the safety margin on the chassis and increase ride harshness. If the ride is harsh it means that the chassis is taking a beating; not to mention the passengers. I'm not saying that you should or shouldn't use a control arm with the spherical bearings I'm just pointing out the pros and cons.

    Sorry about that, just trying to be helpful. I think that panties are a good thing, depending on the style and application. (y)
