How hard is it and how much would it cost to do it in the garage?

The local tranny guy says it is easy and the parts are cheap, but the labor cost would put it around $200.

I figured I would put in a B&M Shift Kit while I was in there, and do it all myself.

Where can I get the new seal, and what kind of hassle will this job be?

    PS--it's a C-4

You'll have to pull the valve body to change the shifter shaft seal(valve body will need to come out for installation of shift kit anyway). There's a large nut(around 15/16 or 1", can't really remember now) that has to be removed to take the shifter shaft out. It isn't that hard from what I remember. You could probably get a seal at a transmission repair shop.

pan bolts and valve body bolts (no ck balls to worry about ) then the big nut it's really not bad if you have a way to get under it book says you should torque bolts but if your carefull you'll do ok .
tuff part is making sure you have the manual shift valve and the throttle valve
    connected to the shift linkages

Sounds easy. Would the B&M shift kit have decent instructions for getting into this, close enough so I can do the seal replacement?

My seal has always leaked, but after taking a two week vacation, I got home and found a trail of fluid all the way back to my back tires, maybe 18" wide, 6' long. It has slowly gone from a drip a day to a slow flow. Makes the undercarriage a mess also.

I have installed a b&m shift improver kit. It had pretty good instructions with it.
