There will be clearance issues with the rear valance (76's didn't have a rear valance) .. but there have been people who squeezed them in .. You will also need the 76 straps since they are longer ..
Ok Thanks, I Found A New One At Advance Auto Parts But They Have Only 76 And Up So I Was Trying To Get A New One, Do You Have Any 76 Straps?
you can buy new gromets at dearnborn classics.. its not for a maverick but it fits fine becuase its the same thing btw did you get the tank where i told you or some where else.. just wondering?
when i got my gas tank....it was from a 76 maverick....i think? not sure.....junkyard item in kentucky....and i got straps from a 75 in arizona...and they fit fine...so i would say yes...
The Reason I Ask Is Advance Auto Parts Has New Ones For $189.00 And If It Would Fit It Would Be Great To Start Fresh With A New Tank And Save The Old One And Get It Cleaned Out And Coated Inside, I Know There Are Not Many New Repo Parts For Our Cars But If This Works It Would Be Nice.
Unless originality is an issue, Dennis wrote a great tech article about using the '65-'68 Mustang tank with some mild mods. This way you can get a new tank with a drain plug, move the pickup tube to the front-that is new too-allowing for more exhaust clearance. I think you can get a new Mustang tank for less than $150 with the install kit and sending unit. Seth
I used the 65-68 tank. I heard the 69-70 tank can be used. With its larger capicity, you dont have to shorten the straps. I havent personelly done this so I'm not going by experience.
wayne, i have a '76 tank in my '73. it went in with no problem...frank... maybe Jamie could pick you up a set of straps when he is "junk yardin'"
Jamie's gotta set of '76 straps that Jamie don't need that Jamie would let Wayne have. I couldn't get a '76 tank to clear my Dual exaust so I ended up putting a '73 tank in.
