ROUNDUP: Thanks to everyone! This was our first Roundup. Previous to this I had met Dennis (Mavaholic), Dan Starnes and Wes at the All Ford Nat's in Carlisle. I knew Tim Wilmoth, our travel buddy, when Tim came to a show here in NC. Stephen Moore and I had met when I bought parts from him. I finally put a face to the name of Craig Selvey, someone who has helped all of us here in some way or another. I still didn't meet every single person at the event, but I met many and made some new friends, got to know many people that I had talked with through e-mail, PM and posts here on the board. I wish there was a way to put faces to names better. Thanks to John Ford, Shawn S., Craig S. and Dan S. for all their hard work in getting this event together. I have no doubt that they were assisted by other members and family members to make this thing happen. We arrived Thurs. evening after meeting up with Tim & Rhonda Wilmoth-a great couple- on Wed. evening. Tim helped me attempt to figure out my trailer light woes in Durham. We pulled out at around 8:15 pm est. spent the night along the way near Asheville, NC and arrived around 3 pm central time Thurs. at the event hotel. The hotel was well equipped for our activities. There was an indoor and outdoor pool that overlooked the river-beautiful view. We attended the Drag Nite festivities where we saw a wide array of times and speeds posted. We had a great time at that, I want to run the car next year! Thanks again to the individual(s) who donated the catered barbecue to drag night participants. Friday I had to wash the Comet and run some errands for stuff we had forgotten-nothing like exploring the Wal-Mart and Target while on vacation! I polished and waxed a bit on Friday. Friday nite we dined as a group at a restaurant that doubled as a WWII and Cowboy museum. We talked with Dennis and Nick quite a while. Later several of us attended a riverfront outdoor band concert-Rockin' Country! just down from the hotel-another reason to have it there next year! Sat. am I drove around town a bit exploring while Cristina attended the herbal and arboretum gardens tour. She really enjoyed that and loved chatting with the ladies. I returned to find everyone cleaning and polishing. I followed the herd and prepared for judging. After the awards ceremony, Maxx managed to get the local fire dept. to bring in an aerial platform to take the pics that you see in the gallery. I think Dennis has a pic of the aerial truck. Everyone else let their camera go in a case up to take pics. Congrats to all participants and to Dan Hines for best of show! Very nice car! Good job, Dan. Sat. evening we all went to the local Moose Lodge for a great country style buffet. Food was great! We were planning to attend the Go Kart and Putt Putt festivities but Cristina needed to change clothes to do that. We went back to the hotel and decided to attend a local Cruz-in with some good ol' Kentucky boys. They were thrilled to have us along side their Hemi Super Bee's and 440 'Cuda. There were several nice cars there. Dennis & his sidekick, Ray, Nick, Dan, Chris, Jim & his Dad and others attended that event. I heard police sirens on the way back behind us, don't know what that was about! Later I felt that it had been a bit of a slow evening so after loading the Comet I proceeded to lock the keys in the truck! Chris helped me get that problem solved. Thanks to Chris and his help! That's it. It was a great time. We enjoyed meeting everyone and attending our first Roundup. We will hopefully be back next year to Owensboro for #13. Owensboro and the event hotel was a great place. You really didn't need to leave the hotel if you didn't want to. We awoke to a view of the sun rising over the river-beautiful! Oh, and....Kentucky Rocks! Seth & Cristina
No doubt, the same comments are coming from everywhere. Glad you had a good time and by the by...sweeeet ride!
Seth, It Was Great To Meet Ya'll, I Know I Had A Good Time And You Are Right It's Nice To Put A Face With A Name, If You Any Meets Other Than The One You Told Us About That Conflicts With The Ford Plant Show Just Give Us A Shout And The Georgia Contingant Will Possibly Make It, Thanks For Your Kindness.
Seth has said everything so good here all I can add is it was really nice traveling together and we enjoyed the ride . So much nicer than traveling alone. Tim & Rhonda
I tell you what, seeing all these posts just makes me REALLY want to go next year. Sounds like a ton of fun. I just met Dan Hines for the first time about an hour ago. Looks like he has some awesome cars, wanted to check them out more but didn't want to keep him up any later. Looks to me like his best of show award was well deserved. Next year...
Seth ... nice finally meeting you and seeing your Comet GT .. awesome job. I didn't hear about the keys in the trunk story! Jamie ... come back in the daylight sometime and I'll show you my Mav's .....
I didn't lock them in the trunk. I locked them in the truck after loading the car on the trailer late Sat. night. Everyone tried their Ford keys hoping to open it until Chris came through with a slim jim. That was the only bad moment of the weekend and it ended well. Seth
Hey Seth, that was a long post, but you know what? You took the words right out of my mouth. I pretty much experienced the same exact things, except locking my keys in my truck . Everything was exactly as you stated. The drag races were awesome, John Ford was awesome, all the meals were great, the late night chats with some of the guys were great, John Ford was awesome, the museum visits were extremely interesting (got to meet Army Armstrong and my 3 year old grandson even had a great time), the 7-story motel was about the nicest I have ever stayed in at an incredible price thanks to awesome John, the city of Owensboro was an excellent choice. I love going to car shows so that was a great way to top off the entire weekend. I helped line the cars up for the photo shoot and even enjoyed that. Hope I didn't make anybody mad when I kept asking them to move again and again. After seeing the aerial shots, looks like I didn't do a very good job after all . Oh well, it was still fun. I even got to help do the judging. There was some awesome cars out there. And congrats again to Dan Himes on the Best of Show...well deserved. But you know what the best thing of all was??? All of the guys and gals I got to meet that I've been talking to all these years on this board. Meeting people like awesome John Ford, Dan Starnes, Mavaholic (actually I had met him, Dan Himes, Rick Porter, Frank, and Wayne Yarians in Atlanta in April at FFW), Craig Selvey, Lance (1badmav), Wes, Shawn Simpson, MavMark, Wilbur Green...and so many others. It's hard to remember all the names. The only thing I can think of that would have topped it all off was the cruise-in we stopped at. I think we only had about 7-8 of our cars there. It would have been absolutely awesome if we could have crashed their local cruise-in with 40 Mavericks at once. I think that would have blown their minds. Maybe next year . Anyway, it was great meeting you and seeing your awesome car. See you again next year. Oh yeah, I think I forgot to mention that John Ford is simply awesome!!!
It was no problem giving you a hand with the key situation. I was just happy to give a couple guys a hand over the course of the show.
Chris It was great meeting you and next year maybe we can see that 4 door grabber Ray I apoligize for sleeping late Sat. and not being out on the field earlier to line up my car. C Y'all in 06
